Esther Shirley Smith was born May 15, 1965, in Enfield, Westmoreland, Jamaica, to her loving parents, Ellen and Walter Buchanan. She grew up in a close-knit family alongside her siblings: her sisters Rachel & Marcel and her brother Boyd from her earliest days, Shirley lived a humble and gracious life filled with warmth and love.

As a young woman, Shirley's life took a new direction when her older sister extended an opportunity for her to join her in Canada. It was there that Shirley's love story with Donald Smith flourished. She sent for him they were married July 1, 1961, in Montreal and together they began building a life filled with devotion and joy. The couple was blessed with two children, Jackie and Richard.

Seeking new opportunities and adventures, Shirley and Donald relocated to the United States, first settling in Connecticut and later moving to Willingboro, New Jersey. It was there that they welcomed their youngest son, Donald Smith Jr., completing their family.

Shirley found her calling as a nursing assistant at Burlington Woods, where her compassion and dedication touched the lives of many. Beyond her work, Shirley’s life was a testament to humility, love, and unwavering faith. She dedicated her heart and soul to God and found great joy in her church community, spending much of her time in worship and service.

Shirley’s life was filled with countless cherished moments, surrounded by family, friends, and a profound love for God. She will be remembered for her kind spirit, selflessness, and the incredible love she poured into her family and faith.
