Velma will live in my heart forever. It is rare to meet a person who exudes such love and light always! Her laugh was one of my favorite sounds on Earth, and I was so fortunate to be a receiver of her kindness and gentle nature. She touched so many people and brought joy with her everywhere. What a beautiful gift for us all. I am a better person for knowing her and am so grateful to have had the opportunity to have her in my life.

In Loving Memory of Velma Hinds Messam (AKA Cuz Bev)
This tribute comes from all of us in Ritz’s tribe (Reita Castell's generations): Denzil, Jackie, Dean, Marie, Shelly-Ann, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Reita cherished Bev as a sister, proudly calling her best cousin. Her children grew to love and hold Cuz Bev in the same high regard. This close bond illustrates the profound influence Cuz Bev had on each of our lives. Although she was our cousin by blood, she was our friend by choice. Family was the foundation of her life, and her presence made every gathering memorable. She had a remarkable ability to make each of us feel cherished and valued.
Whenever Cuz Bev came to Jamaica, she would always visit Mama’s home, filling her time there with love and laughter. She continued this treasured tradition by bringing her daughter, Fatima, along, further emphasizing her commitment to family and the strong connections she fostered.
Cuz Bev was a friend who embodied compassion and always knew how to lift our spirits. Despite facing her own health challenges, she consistently offered encouragement and comfort to anyone going through tough times. It’s no surprise that she found her calling in nursing, dedicating herself especially to clients with special needs. Her incredible empathy inspired us all.
As we remember the past, we acknowledge the positive influence Cuz Bev had on our lives. While we grieve her loss, we also honour the life lessons she imparted: to love wholeheartedly, give generously, and live life to the fullest. Her spirit will forever guide us, urging us to embrace these values in our journey.
Thank you, Cuz Bev, for the love, joy, and treasured memories you shared with us. You were a true gift, and your light will continue to shine in our hearts always.
Rest in peace, dear cousin, until we meet again.

I am still saddened at the news of the passing of my dear friend Bev. Our paths crossed when I was a boarder at her late aunt's (Inez Francis) home at Oakland Road, Kingston, Jamaica in the late 1960's early 1970's. There she regularly visited her aunt and siblings and we developed a close friendship.
Bev was a friend who you knew "had your back". She was never one to be offensive, she was for the most part a peace maker, kind hearted, gentle. I remember her giving her aunt "nuff talking" as she could argue a point, but always respectful.
She had a great love for her family. At the passing of her little brother Syvlan, she was truly distraught as it was no secret that he meant a lot to her. I saw that closeness later transferred to her other brother Champy. She always celebrated the achievements of family members; marriages, graduations etc.
Bev will be sadly missed for her generous spirit and genuine love of people especially her family and close friends.
Family, "weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning." Rest on my friend, Till we meet again!
