Joanne A. Epps-Jarvis Obituary

Obituary

Joanne Antoinette Epps-Jarvis (nee Fleming) age 85 of Burlington Township, NJ departed this life peacefully at home on January 12, 2025. Joanne is preceded in death by her parents Albert Wesley Fleming and Mabel Albertha Fleming (nee Richardson), sisters Sedal Fleming, Henrietta Fleming Iris, Harriett Fleming-Simmons, Lois Fleming Allen, brothers Wesley Fleming and Charles Leroy ‘Bops’ Simons; her husband's Moses F. Epps (Burlington, NJ), Robert H. W. Minors of (St. David’s Island, Bermuda), and Allan F. Jarvis (Bronx, NY). She is also preceded in death by her son Larry G. Minors.

She immigrated to the United States June 19, 1964 with her then husband Robert H. W. Minors and son Larry G. Fleming-Minors, where they took residence in Mt. Holly, NJ. In 1969, the family relocated to Burlington Township, NJ. Joanne then joined Christ Baptist Church, formerly Second Baptist Church, and years later became a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, both in Burlington City, NJ.

She completed her schooling in Bermuda and furthered her education at Burlington County College. In the late 60’s, she worked at F.W. Woolworth (Willingboro, NJ) and later the Ammunition Plant (Burlington, NJ). Joanne started her banking career with Camden Trust on April 1, 1973 and as a result of mergers and acquisitions she retired from Sovereign Bank on May 13, 2005. Joanne was an avid sponsor of Feed the Children. During her banking career she was affiliated with several clubs and organizations and she continued her membership with the Slade Valentine American Legion Auxiliary Post 0336 (Burlington, NJ).

She will always be remembered for her family Thanksgiving dinners. Our family would always ask how we could help with the food and her response would always be ‘stay out of my way’. She was determined to make all the preparations herself. Some of us are blessed to have had a final dinner this past Thanksgiving fully prepared by Joanne in her home. When family and friends had an affair, they would always ask her to make Macaroni and Cheese and Peas and Rice. She could not understand why they wanted her to cook that for them when it was so easy to make, but to us it was special and tasted so good. She maintained an open house policy for her family and friends to come and stay with her as often and as long as they wanted. With her warm and friendly attitude, they did just that and she loved it.

Joanne is survived by her daughter-in-law Dr. Annette M. Minors, two granddaughters Antoinette M. Minors and Dr. Anjoinette Minors (Wali Lundy); three great grandsons Aaron H. Ferguson, Xavier N. Lundy, and Elias I. Lundy; two great granddaughters Kayla M. Ferguson, Avery M. Ferguson; sisters Barbara Ebbin, Jean Wilson, Claudette Jones (Pete), Paulette Smith; inherited grandson Timothy H. Ferguson; very dear sister-friend Veronica Simons Redman; an abundance of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that she adored from Bermuda and the United States.
