Obituary of Carla R Booker

Please share a memory of Carla to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Carla Ruthanne Booker, affectionately known as "Mae," was a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was born on March 29, 1957, to the late Steward Booker & Annabelle (Chatman) Booker. On Thursday, January 23, 2025, Carla peacefully went home to be with the Lord. Carla was the eldest of five sisters, growing up in a home filled with all girls. She attended Cinnaminson High School, where she excelled in field hockey and softball, earning varsity letters in both sports. It was during high school, while gazing out the window, that she first saw Clarence (Piccolo) Dixon—the man who would become the love of her life. Carla often recalled how he gave her butterflies at first sight. The two built a life together, settling in Delair, where the Dixon family welcomed Carla like family. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Carlena and Chakiya, who cherished her deeply. Carla was a carefree person and loved her life to the fullest. She was a spontaneous mother who genuinely loved her children and later took great pride in her role as a grandmother. First, she welcomed her granddaughter Milan, and a year later, another granddaughter, Torri. Carla’s final granddaughter MaLashia, stole her heart and was given the name “Peeps”. Her love for them was boundless, always offering them endless snacks and sharing her famously hilarious stories. Her joy multiplied when she became a great-grandmother to Ryan and JaVon, embracing them with the same unconditional love. Carla was a hard worker. She spent many years working at ShopRite in Lindenwold and Mt. Laurel, where customers and coworkers knew her for her striking blue eyes and kind heart. After that, Carla could be found in the middle of Piccolo and Richard hauling recycling up and down River Road to the junkyard. Carla was happiest when working with her hands— doing yard work for others, or cutting grass around the neighborhood. She had a distinct walk that made her presence known before she even spoke. On June 4, 2017, Carla experienced a deeply personal and transformative moment when she was baptized by her childhood friend, Reverend Curtis Haynes, and received Christ as her personal savior. Her faith became a cornerstone of her life, bringing her strength and peace. Carla had a natural gift for entertaining and a love for laughter. She always made sure to live life to the fullest. Whether catching up with family, reminiscing about old times, or sharing a moment with her dear friend Yvette, she brightened every room she entered. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, and sister, Linda. She leaves behind her two daughters, Carlena Dixon and Chakiya "Chy" Dixon; three sisters, Lisa-Jo Booker, Janice Booker, and Sandra Booker; three grandchildren, Milan Bey, Torri Reece, and MaLashia Vincent; two great-grandchildren, Ryan and JaVon; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins; her beloved in-laws, The Dixon Family and countless friends who will miss her dearly. Carla Booker’s life was a testament to love, laughter, and service to others. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
