Dennis Curtis Smith Sr. Obituary

Dennis C. Smith Sr., born on June 27, 1950, in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Norman S. Smith and Irene B. Smith.

Dennis received his education in the Philadelphia School System and graduated from South Philadelphia High School. Soon after, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he proudly served his country. During his military career, Dennis earned an honorable discharge and received several prestigious awards, including the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. His dedication to his service left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Following his time in the Army, Dennis worked as a federal officer at the U.S. Federal Courthouse in Philadelphia, PA, and continued his work with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, where he made a significant impact throughout his career.

Dennis was known for his infectious spirit and ability to bring joy into every room he entered. He had a special gift of making people smile, even in life’s toughest moments. Whether on the dance floor, showcasing his smooth moves, or leading a line dance, Dennis knew how to lighten the mood and spread happiness. He loved to dance, and many fond memories will be held of him dancing the night away.

Dennis was a devoted, enthusiastic, noble, nurturing, inspirational, and selfless man whose warmth and kindness touched everyone he met. His unwavering love for his family, his humor, and his vibrant personality will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Dennis was a loving husband to Sylvia Finger-Smith and a devoted father to his children: Dennis C. Smith Jr., Tionia K. Smith, Odessa Bligen, Jacket Fong (Smith), Marcella Rivera (Smith), Dennis Kelly, Michael Kelly, Ronald Kelly, Brenda Kelly, Antonio Kelly, Lucinda Kelly, Kalup Kelly and Doreen Kelly. He was also a proud sibling to Norman C. Smith, Marcia Smith, Noreen Smith Shields, Curtis Smith, and Kyra Smith. Dennis leaves behind a cherished family, including grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends, who will carry his memory forward.

For his beloved wife, Sylvia, and all of his family and friends, Dennis’s legacy will never fade. His laughter, his love, and his light will remain forever with us. Rest in peace, Dennis. You will always be our star.
