Capers Jenkins (William C. Jenkins Sr.) departed this life on Friday, February 14, 2025 at Samaritan Center in Mt Holly, NJ.
He was born in Garnett, SC on December 23, 1934 to the late Maude Hutchinson Jenkins and Merrick Dewey Jenkins.
He resided in Connecticut for over 60 years before relocating to Philadelphia, PA, and finally to Cherry Hill, NJ.
Capers was a graduate of Jasper High School in Robertsville, SC, and attended Morris Brown College in Sumter, SC. After moving to CT, he attended the J. M. Wright Technical School in Stamford, CT.
He was a former member of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in Garnett, SC and Bethel A.M.E. Church in Stamford, CT. After moving to Stratford CT, he joined First Baptist Church where he was a member of the men’s fellowship and a volunteer in the food pantry.
Capers was a veteran of the U.S Army at Fort Dix, NJ.
He worked for Paper Novelty Manufacturing Company in Stamford for about 20 years. Capers then worked for Mobil Chemical Company in Stratford, CT from which he retired after 25 years of service.
He is survived by his loving wife, Doris B. Jenkins; daughter, Rev. Katrina E. Jenkins of Franklin Park, NJ; son, Willam C. Jenkins, Jr. (Dr. Angela I. McIver) of Philadelphia, PA; his 3 grandchildren: Dru, Eva, and Benjamin McIver-Jenkins of Philadelphia, PA; sister, Mrs. Janie Ryant of Savannah, GA; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and other family members and friends.
Capers is predeceased by 2 sisters: Maude Housey and Florie Barnwell; and 3 brothers: Merrick, Richard, Benjamin Jenkins.
