Elwood Maurice Brown was born on February 20, 1957, in Camden, NJ. He was affectionately called Maurice by his family and close friends. On February 19, 2025, Elwood closed his eyes peacefully when God called him home. He was preceded in death by his parents Elwood “Buddy” Brown and Rose B. Quearles.
Elwood was raised in Camden, NJ and attended Pyne Point Middle School and Woodrow Wilson High School where he graduated in 1975. In high school, he was one of the star wrestlers on the wrestling team and his memorabilia still remains a part of the school’s sports history. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. serving God and his Country.
Elwood was very knowledgeable. His love for reading and learning allowed him to converse with just about anybody, about anything at any given time….he was a talker for sure. With his desire to learn he then went on to attend Camden County College where he also received his certification in Drug & Alcohol counseling.
Elwood accepted Christ as a young man which later led him to receive his Ministers License. His love God allowed him to touch many people over many years. He knew the Lord and was a firm believer that all things are possible through Christ. Throughout his illness, Elwood never lost the Faith.
Elwood’s funny personality and sense of humor will truly be missed by all who knew him.
He leaves to mourn his passing his daughter Nashae Brown and son Joseph Baker, granddaughter Jade Williams and grandson Jayden Brown; sister Dauhrzell Dugger (Ronnie) and nephews Carlton & Marlow Dugger; Aunt Mildred Rose (105 years) Aunt Irene Holmes (101 years) and Uncle Robert “Bob” Carter (92 years) Sister/Cousins Michelle Carter-Williams, Cynthia Carter & Virgina Green and a host of other relatives and friends.
