Obituary of Catherine Brown

Please share a memory of Catherine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Catherine Brown, affectionately known as Cat, was born to the late Mary Lou Washington and Lee Doss on September 7, 1930 in Jacksonville, Florida. Her parents were migrant farmers and migrated from town to town south coast to north coast. Her parents, migrant farmworkers, instilled in her a strong work ethic as they moved with the seasons, traveling from the south coast to the north coast. Upon settling in Penns Grove, NJ, Catherine was able to pursue her education, graduating from Penns Grove High School. It was there she met Norris Austin, and they were married. From this union, they welcomed two daughters, Terry and Toni. Though their marriage ended in 1961, Catherine built a career in the glass industry, working for many years at Anchor Hocking in Salem before relocating to Camden. Following her move to Camden, Catherine began a career at American Float Glass Industries, where she dedicated her time until the company's closing. On April 12, 1963, Catherine married John T. Brown. Their 47-year marriage was filled with shared adventures and a deep love of travel, creating cherished memories. Catherine, or 'Aunt Cat' as she was lovingly called, possessed a truly welcoming spirit. Her kindness touched everyone she met, and her generosity knew no bounds. No one remained a stranger in her presence. Catherine's love for travel brought joy to those who accompanied her, and her heart overflowed with unconditional love for her family, especially her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Of all her cherished relationships, Catherine’s bond with her great-granddaughter, Carsyn Alexa, was truly exceptional. She devotedly cared for Carsyn during her first year, providing loving support while her mother worked. Carsyn, endearingly called 'Her Cut Buddy,' held a unique and treasured place in Catherine's life. Catherine leaves to cherish his loving memory: Her two daughters, Terry and Toni, one son, Calvin; three grandchildren, Ashanta, Aloha and Brittany; three great grandchildren, Laila, Jaimee and Carsyn Alexa; two nephews Tyrone (Nadine) and Dwayne. She was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Brown (JT), her son John T. Brown Jr, her grandson Antar Austin.
