Obituary of Leonard I Kersey
Please share a memory of Leonard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Leonard I. Kersey departed this life on April 9, 2025, in Gloucester Township, NJ. He was born on April 1, 1962, to the late Leonard and Patricia Ann Kersey.
Leonard was raised in Lawnside, NJ, and attended Haddon Heights High School. After High School, he enjoyed spending time with friends before learning a trade. Leonard became a skilled concrete laborer and took great pride in passing that knowledge on to his sons. He was always willing to lend a hand when concrete work was needed and never hesitated to help others.
A true football enthusiast, Leonard loved watching the Philadelphia Eagles and was especially proud to witness them win in Super Bowl LIX. He also found joy in classic shows like Gunsmoke, listening to oldies, and relaxing on his porch with a cup of coffee, taking in the neighborhood around him. Leonard always had a story to tell—usually starting with “back when…”—and could turn any moment into a walk down memory lane, full of laughter and life lessons.
More than anything, Leonard was proud of his family. He talked often and lovingly about his children, never missing a chance to share how proud he was of each of them. Whether it was a new job, a kind gesture, or simply who they were becoming, he lit up when speaking of them. His love for his children and grandchildren was deep and never left unspoken.
Leonard was a devoted father to Leonard (Tamara), Ryan (Chenelle), Brandon (Nelice), Patricia, and bonus daughters India, Chasitie, and Anna. He was a loving grandfather to Jashad, Syahni, Jayden, Jasmine, Lorenzo, Brandon, and Ryan. He is also survived by his siblings, Janet (Rafael), James (Sanora), and Jeffrey (Judith).
Leonard leaves behind many cherished friends, a host of nieces and nephews, and many relatives. His warm spirit, generous heart, timeless stories, and unwavering kindness touched many lives, and he will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at May Funeral Home in Pennsauken, NJ.
