Margaret B. Moses was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 22nd to the late Archie B. and Margaret T. Sullivan. At the age of 10 the family moved to Malaga New Jersey. She attended school in the surrounding area and graduated from Clayton High in Clayton, New Jersey. As the oldest of her five siblings, she has always had to wear many hats. Margaret has spent the past 86 years living a life that aims to please her Heavenly Father and to serve others. In 1958, Margaret married her husband, the late Bishop Hillmon Moses, and from their fifty-six years of marriage raised their children, Tracey R. Moses and the late Gregory K. Moses. She has been blessed with 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Due to her love for children, Mother Moses had a children ministry for children in foreign countries by communicating with them through mail. She helped finance their clothing expenses, education, and healthcare. In 1979 she transformed her home into Day Care Program in her home for ages 6 months to 9 years of age under the format of the State of New Jersey for 6 years. For 17 years, Margaret was certified under the New Jersey State program for Alternative Care Parents and Teaching Family Parents, in which she worked with mentally challenged children and youth from the ages of 5 to 21 years old and taught them social, behavior and educational skills in a family structured home. Many flourished in her care and went on to live a fulfilled life. She had received rewards and recognition for the fortitude, patience and kindness she showed to the children that was placed in her care. In 1969 Hillmon started his own landscaping business named "Babbs Landscape," named after Margaret’s middle name. Margaret played a vital role as the Executive Administrator ensuring all business documents, finances, licenses and contracts were in order while her husband worked. Margaret has spent her entire life faithfully in her local church. Since 1974, she has been a faithful member of Tabernacle of Faith Church of God in Christ. She has served in several capacities as a Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member, the Leader of the Usher Board and was the founder of the church's first Children Choir in 1975 and Sisters of Charity, which supported the church’s First Lady. Margaret wore several hats while being a strong support to her husband as he elevated in church position from Deacon to Minister ,Elder ,Assistant Pastor, Pastor and Bishop. Her greatest achievement, in the church, came in 1994 when she and her husband became Pastor and First Lady of Tabernacle of Faith Church. For 21 years, she learned much and found joy in helping those she encountered. Under her husband’s leadership, Margaret continued to do the work of the Lord by working in the church office and on the Mother’s Board, was over the Noon Day Prayer altar, a Youth Advisor, formed the Junior Ushers and the Junior Choir, which later was renamed “New Generation Choir.” She was the Director of the Women’s Department and was Coordinator of the Tabernacle of Faith Women’s Weekend Retreat for 13 years. She continued working with her church honoring a recipient each year with the “Hillmon Moses Award” for 15 years. This award was given to those who demonstrated honor, integrity, love, morals and humanitarian characteristics. In 2012, Margaret became the 1st First Lady of the South Jersey Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction, after Hillmon Moses was elevated to the leadership position of Bishop. The two served faithfully in their newly appointed roles for three years until his sudden passing in 2015. While trying to navigate through her own pain, Margaret saw that other wives were hurting too; and in 2016 she started a widow’s group to help support and navigate through grief after the passing of their husbands. The words to the hymn “Great Is Thy Faithfulness" has been her staple song of strength to get her through life’s difficult moments, while believing in the scripture of Nahum 1:7, "The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in Him." Her aim in life has simply been that "if I can help someone as I go this way, then my living is not in vain." She continued to work within her church jurisdiction on the Executive Board of the Woman’s Department under State Supervisor Deborah R. Kitchen and was the Coordinator of the South Jersey Jurisdiction Annual Woman’s Weekend Retreat. In the Spring of 2021, Margaret B. Moses was called to wear yet another hat as she published her first book, a collections of sermons spoken by her late husband, called “Life's Blueprint from the desk of Bishop Moses."
