Virginia Arlene Thornton- Tinsley was born on August 9, 1949, in Hanover County, Mechanicsville, Virginia. She was born to the late Arlene and Dorsey Thornton Sr. Virginia accepted Christ as her personal savoir at the tender age of eleven-years-old. She was then baptized at Greater Nazarene Baptist Church in Hanover County. Virginia attended Hanover County Public Schools and graduated from John M. Gandy High School in 1968. She furthered her education at the Career Training Institute located in Richmond, VA. This is where she received a degree in Communications in 1970. Virginia was employed with Southern Aid Insurance Company for two years and Virginia Mutual Insurance for an additional two years. In 1975, she relocated and was employed with the Department of Navy in Washington D.C. for thirteen years. There she received numerous accolades, achievements and a plethora of accomplishments. In 1989, Virginia was employed by United States Government Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) until she retired in 2011. In 1986, she was reunited with her High School sweetheart Ronald Tinsley Sr. They were united in Holy matrimony in 1987, and in this union are two children, Orlando and Christina. Virginia was a faithful and devoted member of Emanuel Baptist Church located in Glassboro, NJ. Virginia actively served with the following ministries: Trustee Ministry, Education Counsel Ministry, Youth Counsel Ministry, Women Ministry, Transportation Ministry and Kitchen Ministry. Additionally, Virginia was involved in three Choirs; and ultimately wherever she was needed. Virginia was a loving and caring person and had great love for her family and friends. On June 14, 2025, Virginia was called to her heavenly home. Virginia will continue to watch us all with her beautiful smile. Heaven has gained a true angel. Virginia was predeceased by five siblings: Dorsey Thornton Sr, Marian Keesee, Carolyn Dabney, Ellen Parker and Curtis Thornton.  Virginia leaves to cherish her loving memories. A loving and devoted husband of thirty- eight years Ronald Tinsley Sr., devoted son, Orlando Thornton; daughter, Christina Brockington (Anthony); four grandchildren, Destiny and Denzel Thornton, Abria Tinsley and Christopher Brockington, and great-grandson Nasir Gordy. One Godson, Trey Toliver; three loving sisters, Arletha T. Winston, Mary Toliver, and Yvonne Dabney (James); one sister-in-law, Claretha Thornton all of Virginia; one brother-in-law, James Keesee of Tennessee and a hosted of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Two very dear and special friends, Diane Barnes (friend for forty- five years of Suitland, MD) and Phyllis Mickens (friend for sixty years by way of Doswell, VA.) Virginia, affectionately known as Gin, was called the families “Private Investigator”. Virginia will surely be missed and will forever live in our hearts and minds.
