BENTLEY JACKSON Obituary

Bently Jackson affectionately known as “Donnie” went home to be with the Lord on July 2, 2025. He was born to the late Arthur and Hannah Jackson on 12/31/55 in Clarendon Jamaica the Smithville district. Growing up, he attended Seward school in Kingston. Donnie later immigrated to America on July 3, 1974 with 5 of his siblings and his Father to join with his mother and his eldest sister. Shortly after arriving to America, he met and married the love of his life for 50 years, Charlotte “Babs”.

He was a die-hard Eagles fan. No matter the occasion you could guarantee he was showing up in his Eagles gear. It got to the point that various family members offered to buy him a newer version of the old Eagles jacket he always wore. He would say “What’s wrong with my jacket? I like it.” Donnie also didn’t play about his food especially when pork was involved. He loved his food so much that when Babs would try to get him to eat healthy, he started referring to her as the food police. Donnie enjoyed playing and listening to music. He especially loved reggae music. He mastered the art of DJing and selecting which lead him to create his famous sound system Turbotronic International in the mid-80s. With Turbotronic International, Donnie pioneered how reggae music was introduced to the South Jersey area. Donnie especially loved spending time with friends and family reminiscing and laughing about good times. In his later years, Donnie took an interest in writing poetry. You could always count on him to have a poem for any occasion. He eventually authored a book of poetry titled “Poetic Love Letters & More”. His poems covered an array of subjects that many could relate to such as, love, marriage, and heartbreak. His inspiration for this book came from personal experiences of himself and close loved ones.

He had various streams of income throughout the years. He was an author, singer / song writer with a portfolio of original sounds. Donnie was also a radio disc jockey on W.R.E.Y. in Vineland and Boss 97FM with his good friend Mikey T. Their segment was called “Caribbean Connections” which stayed on the radio for a little over 10 years. For a brief time, he was even a Rugby team owner. He made his career as a Truck driver starting with North American trucking then United van lines. Eventually he got his own tractor trailer and named it “Cherry oh Baby” and OH BABY, there are some stories and memories with that truck.

During his journey through life, he had been a member of Chestnut Assembly of God and Voices of Holiness. When he attended these churches, he was active in their ministries. He was always willing to run the audio sound systems and help enhance the ministry in any way he could.

He was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Hannah Jackson, Grandparents Eletia Willoughby, Frederick Gray, Bernice Jackson, and Samuel Jackson.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Charlotte, his daughter Marcia Shaw and son Marlon Jackson of Vineland, NJ. His siblings, LaConnie Savage (Wesley) Bridgeton NJ, Sheila Gayle Bridgeton NJ, Margaret Fowlin (Clifford) Rosenhayn NJ, Carmen Gbayisomore West Orange NJ, Patricia Shaw Louisburg NC, Isaac Jackson of Bridgeton NJ, 5 grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
