Dorothy M Womble-Wyatt Obituary

A Life Well-lived

Dorothy Womble Wyatt was born in Goldston, NC on May 16, 1941 to Annie Mae Dark and Walter W. Womble. She had one brother, the late Vernon Womble. She married Glenmore Wyatt, and they raised their son Glen, who both preceded her in death.

Dorothy was a queen in every right. Her life was vibrant and ever moving. Indeed, her legacy has grown into a gorgeous train of diamonds and appreciation. Although her light has transferred to an eternal beam in God’s sunshine, we will always remember.

On September 23, 2025, a queen entered a Divine Court; she arrived at a place that drapes her in eternal life.

A Queen’s Story

Dorothy, fondly known as “Dot,” received her early education in the Goldston, NC school system, where she attended the J. S. Waters School. She obtained her undergraduate degree from Fayetteville State University (FSU) in Fayetteville, NC and her Masters degree from North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC.

Dot accepted Christ at an early age, joining the Roberts Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Goldston, NC. Her family worshipped at Nazarene Baptist Church and Mount Zion Baptist Church in Camden, NJ, as well as the New Community Baptist Church in Collingswood, NJ. She loved to invite family and friends to attend worship services with her on Sundays and join her for dinner afterwards.

Dot was a dedicated and hardworking educator, committed to enriching the lives of her students and their families. She was truly “the community principal.” She progressed through the Camden School system, serving in different capacities of leadership. After serving as principal at Bonsall School for many years, in 1991, Dot had the honor of opening the Riletta Twyne Cream Family School as its first principal. We cannot forget that she loved those “Cream Cats.”

Dot was an outstanding educator and principal who deserves to be celebrated. She was a visionary leader who made a positive impact on students, parents, staff, and the adjacent community. She provided inspiration, guidance, and created a supportive and encouraging learning environment that allowed the students and staff to feel they were seen, heard, and valued. She was consistent, both firm and fair. Dot was a model educator. She will be remembered for “going beyond the call of duty” because of her commitment, selflessness, and her hard work.

Because of her love for life and others, Dot embraced her membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and The Order of the Eastern Star. She loved decorating her home with African artifacts, hosting dinners, and partaking in birthday celebrations for her friends. She truly enjoyed casino trips, sightseeing, eating out, shopping, and visiting friends and relatives. A special joy was coordinating homecoming trips on the Bronco Express Bus with her beloved sister-friend, the late Ann Rubin. Undoubtedly, she was dedicated to the recruitment of FSU students. Dot loved buying gifts for family and friends, as well as sending cards and notes in the mail. (She never forgot birthdays!)

Indeed, Dot was a sweet and caring person who looked out for everyone. Her life was a huge blessing, and she left all of us with memories we can cherish throughout time. Dot was truly loved. We will never forget that beautiful smile!

Dot leaves to cherish her memory- her grandson: Tyler DeBardino (Katelyn) of Scarborough, ME; her daughter-in-law: Aisha Wyatt of Maple Shade, NJ; two aunts: Martha Womble-Hunt and Beathsader M. Womble; two nieces: Dynene Hunt and Cheryl Womble of Baltimore, MD; her caregiver/nephew: Micheal William Moore of Sanford, NC; first cousins: Waymon Womble of Philadelphia, PA; Dwight Claiborne and Dywane Hunt of Baltimore, MD; godchildren: LaJohn Bivins-Pollitt of Camden, NJ, Kimberly Rubin of Cherry Hill, NJ, and Sturae Myers of Camden, NJ, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
