Dawn Michele Rose, beloved daughter of Gloria Rose and the late Morris
Willis, was born on December 22, 1967, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Raised in a Christian home rooted in love, faith, and family, Dawn was nurtured
with strong spiritual and moral values that shaped the woman she would
become. She received her education through the Philadelphia parochial school
system, where she developed a love for learning, a compassionate spirit, and a
deep sense of purpose. At an early age, Dawn accepted Christ as her Savior and
was baptized at East Bethel Baptist Church in Philadelphia.
After graduating from Little Flower Catholic High School, Dawn went on to
attend Howard University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in
Occupational Therapy in 1992. This field perfectly aligned with her natural
empathy and desire to help others live their fullest lives. As an occupational
therapist, Dawn touched countless lives with her patience, kindness, and
unwavering commitment to service. At the time of her passing Dawn was
employed by the NJ Department of Labor.
In 2001, Dawn was united in marriage to Christopher Jones. From their union,
they were blessed with a daughter, Christie Janae Jones. Christie's premature
birth tested Dawn’s faith, but her strong spiritual foundation and steadfast belief
in God's grace guided her through the challenges of early motherhood. Her
dedication to nurturing and advocating for her daughter’s well-being was
nothing short of inspiring.
Dawn was a woman of many talents and passions. She found great joy in music
and dance. Whether moving to her favorite song or worshiping through the Flag
Ministry at Abundant Life Church, she had a special way of spreading joy and
lifting the spirits of those around her. Her radiant smile and warm spirit could
light up any room. Her heart for service extended far beyond her profession.
Dawn founded the D.O.V.E.S ministry, Daughters of Value, Excellence, and
Self-Esteem, a non-profit organization focused on uplifting and empowering
young ladies through mentoring, fellowship, and guidance. Under her leader-
ship, the D.O.V.E.S. program became a nurturing space where girls could grow
in faith, self-confidence, and purpose. Through this work, Dawn inspired many
to recognize their worth, pursue excellence, and live with intention. Her legacy
of compassion and mentorship will have a lasting impact on her community.
Dawn was preceded in death by her father, Morris Willis, and her bonus brother,
Robert Taylor.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her mother, Gloria Burr; her bonus Dad,
Robert Burr; her daughter, Christie Janae Jones; her siblings, Marcus Willis
(Stanicia), Yolanda Wintz, Shadeed Willis (Eilleen), and Lashanda Willis; her
bonus Mom, Willie Mae Willis; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews,
cousins and friends. Dawn’s life was a testament to faith, love, and selfless ser-
vice. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who were
blessed to know her.
