With profound sadness, we announce the passing of William Henry Pope, who departed this life on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, in Vineland, New Jersey, at the age of 67.
He was born on Sunday, October 6, 1957, to Mary Bell (Lindsey) and Linwood Goldsboro. In his early years, he was lovingly adopted by Tony Pope, who raised him with care and devotion. Later in life, Mary married James Bell, who also became a father figure to William.
William was known for his quiet strength, kind heart, and deep devotion to his family. His presence was a source of comfort and warmth to all who knew him.
A lifelong and devoted member of The United House of Prayer for All People, William shared his musical talent as a gifted trombone player with the legendary band The Mighty Untouchables. He was a proud graduate of Vineland High School, Class of 1975. He also served his country with distinction in the United States National Guard. Following his service, William worked for many years at Shieldalloy and Wheaton Glass, where he was a valued and dedicated employee.
Beyond his work and service, William loved to stay active, in shape, and enjoy nature. Walking was his greatest pastime, and for many years he could be seen throughout Vineland completing his daily 10 miles, a routine he kept faithfully until age began to slow his stride.
He was preceded in death by his mother Mary Bell (Lindsey), his stepfather James Bell, his adoptive father Tony Pope, his sisters Marcella “Marcy B” Alise Bell and Padestes “Dessy” Jane Mutts, his brother Bryant “Butter Ball” Allen Goldsboro Sr., his stepbrother James Bell, and his stepsister Crystal Bell.
William leaves to cherish his memory his father Linwood Goldsboro; his siblings Gordon (Jon) Bell, Anna (Darryl) Bell-Slaughter, Marva Drummond, Valerie Goldsboro, Kimberly “Kimmy” Goldsboro, Sonya Goldsboro, Leslie “Nisecy” Goldsboro, Andrea (Jermaine) Goldsboro-Johnson, Darrin (Tammy) Doss, and Brother-In-Law Marvin Mutts (Late Padestes Mutts); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
William’s life was a testament to resilience, love, and quiet dignity. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and his legacy of compassion, faith, and family devotion will never be forgotten.
