Obituary
It is with both sadness and gratitude that we celebrate the life of Janice “Jan” Burnett, affectionately known by all for her humor, warmth, and unforgettable presence. Jan was truly the life of the party—a woman whose laughter filled every room and whose favorite line, “Chile please,” could brighten even the dullest day.
Jan was born in Newark, New Jersey, and educated in both the Newark and Camden Public School systems. In the mid-1970s, she moved to Camden with her parents, Caster and Francis Burnett, where she continued building a lifetime of cherished memories surrounded by family and friends.
In December 1998, Jan married Garry Bradley, and together they built a loving home grounded in faith, laughter, and loyalty. She was an amazing wife, mother, and aunt—known for her endless love, sharp wit, and ability to keep her family close. Her children and grandchildren were her heart, and her love for them shined in everything she did.
Jan was more than just a neighbor—she was a cornerstone of her community. As Thurman Street’s beloved block captain, she made sure everyone felt connected, cared for, and, when needed, put in their place. Jan always spoke her mind and never held her tongue when it came to standing up for what she believed in. Her honesty, humor, and big heart made her unforgettable. The entire block loved her deeply and will forever remember her warmth, laughter, and the way she kept everyone in line while making them laugh at the same time.
Jan worked tirelessly throughout her life, showing strength, pride, and dedication in everything she did. She worked at Cherry Hill Convalescent Center in housekeeping, RibChicks, and later served as Assistant Manager at Big Al’s, Chicken George, and several other local establishments. No matter where she worked, Jan left her mark with her humor, work ethic, and ability to make others feel at home. Her energy was magnetic, her spirit bold, her laughter contagious, and her love immeasurable. She had a way of making everyone feel seen, heard, and loved. To know Jan was to know joy. Her legacy will live on through the many lives she touched and the countless memories she created.
Jan leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted husband Garry Bradley;
her beloved son Keith Burnett; her stepson Garrett Bradley; her loving daughter Ganasia Bradley; and her precious grandchildren Little Garrett, Ymoni, Keith, and Love. She is survived by her siblings Mary Burnett, and Dwayne Burnett; her brothers-in-law Larry Bradley; her sisters-in-law Mary Moses, Diane, and Arlene Bradley; and her best friend Carol, who stood by her through life’s joys and challenges. Jan also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who loved her deeply. She was preceded in death by her parents, Caster and Francis Burnett, and her siblings, Minnie Pearl Burnett, Cass Burnett, Steven Burnett, Morris Burnett, Timothy Burnett, and Billy Burnett; as well as her brother-in-law James Bradley and sisters-in-law Louis Segar and Deborah Bradley.
