Henry L Johnson Obituary

Mr. Henry Johnson, affectionately known as “Bruh, H.J., Grandpop,” was born May 8, 1942, in Marshallville, Macon County, Georgia, to the late George B. Johnson and Beulah McGhee Johnson. He was the fifth child of seven boys. Henry is predeceased in death by his brothers, Cecil Barrett, Milton Simmons, J.C. Simmons, Frank Simmons, Freddie Lee Johnson, Bobby Johnson, William Johnson Sr.; a very special companion, Barbara Adams, known to him as B.J.; daughter and son-in-law, Wynette (Christopher) Church; and grandson, Keith Adams.

Henry began his formal education at Lamson Richardson Elementary School in Marshallville, GA. He graduated from the historical D.F. Douglas High School in Montezuma, GA. Henry moved to Vineland, New Jersey, shortly after his graduation with his older sibling in hopes of building a better future and finding a place where opportunities were more obtainable. After returning to Vineland from serving in the United States Army, Henry was employed for many years at Venice Maid Company until retirement. He was a devoted member of the Miracle Temple Church of God Christ under the leadership of his cousin, Pastor Emily Myrick, where he faithfully attended until his health declined. Henry enjoyed watching his sports, i.e., the World Series and Super Bowl games. He was a super fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and the Phillies baseball team. He also enjoyed riding his bike and scooter before his health declined. He was a very outgoing and outspoken man who loved and supported his family and friends unconditionally, always being there for them in any situation. Whenever a need arose, he would be the first to render a helping hand, regardless of the situation.

Henry transitioned in peace on October 28, 2025, after giving in to the Lord's call. He leaves to cherish his memory a very devoted daughter, Antoinette (Michael); a brother, Pastor Victor (Deborah) Johnson Sr.; five grandchildren, Christopher, Jeremy, Brittany, Victoria, and Brandon (Maria); nine great-grandchildren; a special cousin, Jimmy McGhee; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
