Nathaniel C. Winthers Obituary
Nathaniel Charles Winthers entered this life on January 1, 1935, at Cooper Hospital in Camden, New Jersey, and went home to Glory on January 9, 2026. He was the beloved son of the late James Nathaniel Winthers and the late Dorothy Mae Winthers (Durham).
Known affectionately as “Buddy,” he was also lovingly called “Nate,” “Pop Pop,” “Great-Grand Pop,” and “Buddy L.” by his fellow firefighters. Nathaniel was educated in the Lawnside and Haddon Heights School System.
Career, Service, and Faith
Nathaniel worked in several fields throughout his life, including Owens Corning Fiberglass, Weyerhaeuser in Barrington, NJ, and later as a driver for Allied Beverage in Mount Laurel, where he retired after 30 years of dedicated service.
He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1956, with assignments in England, France, and Guam, and was honorably discharged.
Nathaniel’s faith was a pivotal cornerstone of his life. He joined Grace Temple, where he served faithfully on the Trustee Board following the construction of the new church. In 1993, he became a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Burlington, NJ, where he remained active until his illness.
He was first married to Carrie Winthers, who preceded him in death. Later in life, he married Henrietta Bailey Winthers.
Predeceased Loved Ones
Nathaniel is now reunited with his parents, Dorothy and James Nathaniel Winthers; his sisters Dorothy, Gloria, and Christine; his brother Ronnie; his daughter Delores; and his sons Robert and Eric.

Nathaniel leaves to cherish his legacy, His wife, Henrietta Winthers; His daughters Patricia, Henrietta, Francine (“Peaches”), and Melanie; His son, Frankie Cook (Juanita); His sister, Joan Cephas; His sister in law, Angela Winthers; Nine grandchildren: Milike, Delores, Raymond, Deja, Robert Jr., Morgan, Miles, Zakee and Aigner; Many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; A host of devoted nephews, nieces, cousins, fellow firemen and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
