Horace G Worthington, III Obituary

Obituary for Rev. Horace George Worthington III

Rev. Horace George Worthington III (and the G stands for Good Looking), transitioned from this life on January 14, 2026, returning to the presence of the Lord whom he faithfully served.

Born in Camden, New Jersey, on February 21, 1941, Horace was the son of Ida (Woods) and Horace George Worthington, Jr., and he is lovingly referred to as “Junie” by his family. Rev. Worthington accepted Christ at an early age, and once he answered the call to ministry, he began a lifelong journey of preaching, teaching, and shepherding God’s people.

A proud graduate of Rutgers University, he valued education deeply and encouraged others to pursue knowledge with purpose and discipline. Rev. Worthington also served his country honorably in the United States Army, completing three years of dedicated service.

He was a committed member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., embodying the fraternity’s principles of manhood, scholarship, perseverance, and uplift. His passion for education extended far beyond the classroom—he mentored young people, championed academic excellence, and inspired countless individuals to believe in their potential and cultural heritage.

On April 2, 1972, he was united in marriage to Barbara Sims, and together they shared a lifetime of love, partnership, and unwavering devotion. Their union was a testament to faith, commitment, and the quiet strength of two people walking in purpose together.

As an undergraduate student, Horace served as the 2nd Vice District Representative of the 2nd District of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. He also served as chaplain of multiple chapters of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and he is a Life Member. Rev. Worthington is also the Honorary President of the Baptist Ministers Conference of Woodbury and Vicinity. His ministry was marked by teaching, community outreach, and mentorship. He touched lives through his sermons and trips to enroll students in HBCUs, always striving to reflect God’s love in word and deed.

Rev. Worthington will be remembered for his faith, wisdom, sense of humor, turkeys, singing, stepping, prayers, and leadership. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the souls he encouraged, and the Word he faithfully proclaimed.

He was a dedicated father, and a cherished grandfather, brother, and uncle. He leaves to cherish his memory: his adoring wife, Barbara Jean, his children - Horace, Lorena, Bryon (Shakeeta), Ayanna (Paul), Chinyere, Uche (Calvin), Horace IV (Cathy), Udo-Chi (Laron), Chi-Emeke (Roxanne), along with a host of extended family, church family, fraternity brothers, and friends who loved him dearly.

The family expresses deep gratitude for every prayer, call, and act of kindness during this time. We take comfort in knowing that he has received his eternal reward and now rests in the arms of the Lord.
