Gregory A. Wilson Obituary

Reflection of Life

A Time to be Born

Gregory Anthony Wilson was born December 18, 1951 in Philadelphia, PA. He was the first born to the late Ruth and Wilbur Wilson, and the big brother of Andrea, Carol and Brian. Gregory was educated in the Philadelphia public school system, graduating from Overbrook High school in 1969. He also attended the Settlement Music School and majored in classical music/Piano. Gregory began his collegiate education at St. Joseph’s University but only attended for 1 year as a Chemistry major. He returned to college some years later and completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music at Lincoln University in Jefferson City Missouri in 1980.

A Time to Serve

Before relocating to the mid-west, Gregory worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a surveyor. After moving to Jefferson City, Missouri, he worked in a variety of positions and fields including College Food Services Management, and Insurance\Computer Information Systems. His last position was as a Computer Programmer/Analyst for Citi Corp, which later re-located him to their San Francisco, California office.

A Time to Build

Gregory was a great lover of classical music, and in addition to the piano, gained proficiency in several different instruments including the trumpet, Oboe, Bassoon, Tuba and Recorder. Gregory was a member of a few musical groups and performed classical music pieces at various venues in Canada, Mexico, Hawaii, Bali, Switzerland, and in a few European countries, as well as spots across the United States. Gregory was also an avid dancer – especially Contra Dancing and frequently traveled from California to Mexico for dance events.

A Time of Peace

Gregory’s health began to decline in the early 2000’s when he suffered a massive stroke, and was subsequently challenged with heart failure, for which he eventually returned to New Jersey for medical treatment and to be closer to family. Greg later moved to Riverview Estates Senior Living facility in Riverton, NJ, where he continued to engage in activities such as playing chess, bingo, exercising and happy hours. Gregory was a fighter but sadly, he lost his fight with this life on Saturday January 17, 2026 and went home to be with our Heavenly Father.

Gregory is survived by his siblings, Rev. Andrea C. (Wilson) Hughes of Dover. DE, Carol L. Wilson, Camden, NJ, Brian K. Wilson, Cinnaminson, NJ; nephews Rev. Brian A. Hughes (Gail) Temple Hills MD, great nephews David E. and Jaycen M. Hughes of Temple Hills MD, nephew Andrew D. Hughes, Camden, NJ, great niece A’Kayla M. Hughes, Camden, NJ, great niece Azuri M. Hughes, Oklahoma, and a host of cousins, other extended family and special friends from around the world.
