Henrietta Carter Obituary

Mom’s Obituary

It feels like I'm running out of time, and I've got a whole lot of things on my mind. But just a little further down the road, hold my hand and help me breathe. Henrietta Y. Carter, Born August 24,1947 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Emma Starks and the late James Henry Lee, known to the family, this young lady known as Rabbit in Abbeville South Carolina. The name Henrietta means the Ruler of the house, yes and that is what she became. Henrietta would take care of James Lee Jr., the first-born brother and four younger siblings.

Henrietta with her siblings would later settle in New York, where 6 other siblings would join her. She attended and graduated from the New York Public School System. Henrietta was known to be a very sharp and classy dresser with an amazing smile, a welcoming heart, great dance moves and was stunningly beautiful! She was a giver, helper, supporter, friend, sister, and most of all the Ruler of the house!

In April of 1964 she would give life to her first and only child Tyron Lee, who she loved full-heartedly. She often said to me as a young man.

"I'm teaching you now, I won't be here all your life", And those words have never left me.

Henrietta faced challenges, yet she never surrendered and never once did she retreat! Henrietta would leave New York and move to Philadelphia PA, where she met and married Ernest Jack Carter in July 1967. That union spanned 18 years of marriage.

That resulted in separation, they never divorced. When Henrietta learned that her husband of 18 years was on his last days, she offered to have him stay with her.

Henrietta first new founded family was that of a grey-haired sweet Ole Lady named Ms. Ollie Barner and her 4 daughters Ernestine, Claudette, Gloria and Darlene and 2 son's Albert and Willie Barner. She also shared a long-time family ship with Wanda, Rene and Beverly Mason. Henrietta loved my Aunt Williemae Porterfield and would spend countless Friday nights with the Porterfield family. To each and every one of you, I say thank you for loving my mother.

Henrietta was a member of Faith Holy Temple COGIC, in Camden NJ where she found comfort in friends and her relationship with Christ. She served as an Usher and on the Nurses Staff. She was employed by Cadbury Rehabilitation in Cherry Hill, NJ where she spent 19 years and 15 years as Union Shop Stewart. She soared through promotions with her knowledge and skills.

She willed to Never Surrender and Never Retreat! In which she showed until her final day. She never quit!

Henrietta enjoyed spending her free time with sister and caregiver Loretta Lee, the 2 would often find themselves sitting in the park like Thelma and Louise needing help getting up from the bench into the car, and from the car to the patio; just to start all over again!

She loved her Grands and just as any Grandparent, she would do anything that she could to help them. Her favorites were Karon and Dhani, though she loved them all equally those 2 she lived for. She had a love for good music, she loved singing songs by Al Green with her favorite being Jesus is waiting, Percy Sledge, Warm and tender love....she used to say listen to that organ! She would sing and dance with me over and over and over again. Funny that I would find myself playing her records every chance I got.

Henrietta departed this world on February 3, 2026, she was found with a peaceful look of serenity on her face, as she awaited Jesus. She leaves behind to cherish her memory Son Tyron Lee and her Grand Children
