Freddie Lee Middlebrooks Jr. was born on June 20, 1948, to Freddie Lee Middlebrooks Sr. and Juanita Stewart in Ocilla, Georgia. He attended and graduated from Andrew Jackson Senior High School in 1966 and enlisted in the United States Air Force shortly after graduation. During his distinguished military career, he completed several educational programs, including Air Force Effective Writing in 1984 and Load Master Air Drop qualification in 1987.
Freddie enlisted into the United States Air Force after his high school graduation in 1966. He rose through the ranks from Airman Basic, up to Senior Airman and Staff Sergeant and retired in 1990 as Master Sergeant after 24 years, 2 months and 25 days of dedicated service. His assignments took him across the globe to locations such as Germany, Greece, Turkey, the Philippines, and Panama just to name a few and therefore making him somewhat of a world traveler. Though his work kept him away for lengthy periods, his love and powerful presence was always felt throughout the home. He frequently returned from his travels with thoughtful gifts for his family, ranging from unique candies, crystals, and jewelry to toys and furniture from other countries that never made it to the US. And we can't forget the family’s favorite papasan chair. After his retirement from the Air Force, he went on to have a successful 20-year career as a Correctional Officer for the state of New Jersey Department of Corrections.
While on assignment with the Air Force, Freddie had a chance encounter with Beverly Webb. From the moment they met they were inseparable and knew that they wanted to be with one another. Time strengthened their bond and they decided to seal their love through marriage and unite as one. From their loving union became 11 children, 23 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. He was affectionately called many names by his family members such as "Junior" by his siblings, "Uncle Fred" by nieces and nephews and a simple "Dad" by his children and grandchildren. While a special little someone would mimic his wife and call him "Boo". Though Beverly preceded Freddie in death, they are joyfully reunited in eternal peace.
Through his serious demeanor and commanding presence, Freddie was profoundly loving and deeply caring. His love was strong, confident and undeniable. His style and classy way of dressing always made a statement. He joined his wife and other parishioners on a path to Christ forming a prayer ban and eventually became an Elder at New Life Ministries, where his son Derrick W. Webb is the presiding Bishop. His booming, powerful voice resonated through the church, carrying his spiritual words and songs out into the streets.
Dad also had an integral part in the lives of many youths in the South Jersey area. Through the program Therapeutic Alternatives, Dad mentored young men and women and opened his home to youths that were facing difficult times in their lives. Though he was the silent type he cared immensely for those facing hardship in his community. In his leisure, Dad enjoyed watching football, and listening to all kinds of good music. He would also kick butt and take names in a game of Spades and Bidwhist. He was a car enthusiast and enjoyed looking at motorcycles, because that's all his wife would let him do.
Freddie Lee Middlebrooks Jr. was a legendary man. He became heaven bound on February 12, 2026, and joined his loving wife, Beverly E. Middlebrooks, his parents Freddie Sr. and Juanita Middlebrooks, his bonus mother Georgia Mae Turner, brother Mel Cooks, sisters Lish and Trellis Cooks.
