Gwendolyn M Jones Obituary

Gwendolyn Marie Jones (née Seigler), age 69, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2026, at her home in Camden, New Jersey. Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, family, and unforgettable memories.

Gwendolyn was born on April 20, 1957, in Syracuse, New York, to Oreathea Sistruck (née Lane) and the late Frederick Seigler. She was the second of four children and grew up surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Sharon Thame and Tiffany Edenfield, and leaves behind her beloved brother, Reginald Seigler.

As a young woman, Gwen attended and graduated from Nottingham High School before continuing her education at Syracuse University, where she studied Liberal Arts. During her college years, she met Warren H. Jones, and the two married in 1976. Together they welcomed their son, Warren E. Jones, in 1977 and built a family rooted in love, support, and commitment.

In her early years of motherhood, Gwen devoted herself to raising her son and creating a loving home. As the years passed, she built a successful career through hard work and determination. She worked as an Event Coordinator for the Four Seasons Hotel during the late 1980s, and then later for Aramark at the Pennsylvania Convention Center throughout the 1990s. She eventually joined the Law Department at Rutgers University as an Administrative Assistant, where she remained until her retirement in 2020.

Family was always at the center of Gwendolyn’s world. She loved hosting holiday gatherings, cooking meals that brought everyone together, and spending time with her grandchildren. Whether she was sharing stories, offering advice, laughing over old memories, or simply enjoying a family get-together, Gwen made sure to make every moment meaningful.

Gwen had a warm and welcoming spirit that drew people to her. She could strike up a conversation with just about anyone and had a gift for making people feel comfortable, valued, and heard. Her kindness, generosity, and genuine concern for others made a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Retirement allowed Gwen to enjoy the many things she loved most in life. She spent countless hours with family and friends, binge-watching her favorite television shows (Snowfall; Game of Thrones; The Walking Dead; True Crime), and staying connected through social media—especially Facebook. Whether she was posting throwback photos, sharing family memories, taking selfies, or commenting on the latest news, Gwen always found a way to stay connected with the people she loved.

A passionate sports fan, Gwendolyn was a die-hard Philadelphia Eagles fan and an unwavering Boston Celtics supporter. Football and basketball seasons were amongst her favorite times of the year, and she never missed an opportunity to cheer for her teams or engage in a spirited debate about sports.

Travel was another one of Gwen's greatest joys. She loved seeing new places and creating new experiences. Over the years, she visited numerous states, cities, and countries and even had the pleasure of enjoying thirteen cruises. The Caribbean held a special place in her heart, especially Jamaica, St. Thomas, and Barbados; destinations she often spoke about with great fondness.

Since childhood, Gwen had an enduring love for literature. She was an avid reader whose favorite genres included black literature, feminist poetry, autobiographies, murder mysteries, mafia novels, and urban romance. Books brought her joy, inspiration, and countless hours of entertainment.

Gwen also had a deep appreciation for art. She loved collecting, buying, selling, and trading artwork. She always seemed to have an eye for beauty in both paintings and photography. If a piece of art spoke to her, she had to have it. Her love for creativity and self-expression was evident throughout her life.

In recent years, Gwendolyn faced health challenges with great strength, tenacity, and determination. Her asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) gradually became more difficult, particularly in early 2026. Through it all, she remained resilient and continued to find comfort in the presence of family and friends.

Gwendolyn leaves behind to celebrate her memory her devoted husband, Warren H. Jones; her loving son, Warren E. Jones; her beloved mother, Oreathea Sistruck; her cherished brother, Reginald Seigler; and her treasured grandchildren, Nasiem Harley, Sherron Huggins Jr., Larren Jones, Joshua Jones, Londyn Huggins, and Jai'Leah Jones.

She also leaves behind her cherished godchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, lifelong friends, and all those whose lives were touched by her kindness, wisdom, humor, and unconditional love.

Gwendolyn was selfless, caring, feisty, and loving beyond measure. She was the glue that helped keep the family connected; the person everyone could call for a conversation, a laugh, or a word of encouragement. Although she is no longer here with us physically, she will continue to be that glue. Her outgoing personality, generous heart, and enthusiasm for life have left an unforgettable mark on all who knew her.

God blessed us with Gwendolyn’s presence for 69 wonderful years. Though she has transitioned, her legacy lives on through the family she loved, the memories she created, and the countless lives she touched.

She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in our hearts.
