Joseph Frederick Robinson, Sr. affectionately known as “Joe” was born on January 25, 1945, in Camden, New Jersey, to Rachel Anna (Williams) McElwee and Joseph Robinson. He was the first of eight children.
Joe attended the Camden City Schools and graduated from Camden High School, Class of 1964. Following graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
After completing his time in the military, Joe returned to Camden and successfully completed a Health Occupation Training Program for Food Service Worker at West Jersey Hospital -Northern Division in 1969. Joe worked various jobs including a chef at Chubby’s Restaurant in Camden, NJ before beginning his career with the New Jersey Department of Corrections, where he worked in the Kitchen Facilities Department until his retirement in the mid 2000’s.
Joe was a loyal Philadelphia sports fan, with a special love for the Eagles. Whether watching a game or discussing the latest season, he proudly supported his hometown teams.
Joe departed this earthly life on July 16, 2026.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rachel Anna (Williams) McElwee and Joseph Robinson; his brothers, William “Bill” Spencer, Ralph “Buddy” Spencer Jr and Oscar Spencer.; and his sisters, Patricia “Trish” Spencer and Lorraine Bumbrey; and son Raymond Robinson.
Joe leaves to cherish his memory his beloved children, Joseph F. Robinson Jr. (Terry); Dennis Robinson, Michael Robinson, Tonja Robinson, Yolanda Robinson, and Denise Robinson; his stepchildren, Teresa Coaxom (William), Michael Carabello-Wyatt, Robin Wyatt, and Lisa Wyatt; He also leaves behind several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Kevin Spencer and Phillip “Phil” Spencer, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
A special acknowledgment to his beloved cousin, Sadie Brown, for her unwavering love, kindness, and support.
Though he may be gone from our sight, Joe's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
