Betty Marie Jervey born September 18 1928, a true servant of God, departed unto her eternal resting place on February 3, 2016, surrounded by her family at her home in Wilmington, Delaware. She was the only child of the late Ella Watkins and Daniel Dyson. Betty was born in Elkton, MD where she stayed until her early teens. She was attending Howard High School when she met her soul mate Reuben Jervey. The two were joined in holy matrimony on Jan 15, 1949. Betty always desired a large family and this union brought about six children, who were the love of her life. Betty began her gospel music ministry in the 1940's. As a musician, she devoted her life to blessing others through the power of music and shared her ministry with countless congregations in her decades of service. She made her start at Old Fort U.A.M.E. Church in Christiana, DE, where she was the pianist for several years. In 1949, she became the co-musician for Scott A.M.E. Zion Church, where she was a musician and faithful member for over 60 years. In her time at Scott, she accompanied the Mass Choir and Senior Lawson Chorus as well as co-founded the Jr. Lawson Chorus. She was also a musician for many years for the Ushers Union Choir. She became a member of Spirit & Truth Deliverance Ministries, Inc. in 2001. The fellowship hall at of Spirit & Truth Deliverance Ministry was dedicated to her and her husband in 2014. She served in several Emeritus positions at her home church including the Women's Ministry and Pastor's Aide. Most recently, she made an honorary member of the Northern Delaware Chapter of the G.M.W.A. Betty found her joy in praising the Lord through singing and playing the piano, as well as teaching her many "children" to do the same. She lent her talents to many choirs and churches throughout the city and surrounding states. Betty was a talented musician and was affectionately known in the community as a kind and loving Christian woman. Her family extended past those who shared her blood; and she became a "Mom", "Aunt", and "Grandmother" to many. She was always available to anyone who would receive of her love and wisdom. Bettye was preceded in death by 1 daughter Karen Jervey. She leaves to cherish her memory her dedicated husband of 70 years Reuben, her loving children Keith (Alisha), Cynthia (Theo), Francine (Stanley), Regina (Gary-Deceased) and Tyrone (Toni), 11 grandchildren Cynthia, Jon (Nailah), Tiffany, Bernard (Patricia), Jne, Keith Jr, Maurice, Claryssa (Sean), Tyriel, Gary, Jr, (Lauretta) and Tyler. A host of great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. One brother-in-law Louis Jervey, two sisters-in-law Angela Jervey and Freida Jervey; as well as 0 a host of nieces and nephews. Home Going Celebration will be held at Ezion Fair Baptist Church on Thursday, February 11, 2016. Viewing from 4:00 - 7:00 pm Funeral Service 7:00 pm. Interment, Friday, February, 12, 2016 - 10 am at Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle DE
