Deacon Hohney’s Journey
John Charles Hohney Sr the second of five boys was born March 14,1935 in Sherwood Maryland to the late Bill Hohney and Pearl Bembery.
Moving to New Jersey in 1941 John attended the Camden City Public School System. After high school he took a carpentry course at MDTA then after would put many years of work in at the Philadelphia Refinery Company. After many years John then retired from Union Local 222 in Camden New Jersey.
In the late 1950s John Sr would find the Apple of his eye Loretta Barbara Young. It was love at first sight. John and Loretta married and from this union 4 beautiful children were born (Michelle, Rudolph, Paul & John Jr.)
At the age of 50 John would make sure (as he always loved to say) that "His Anchor Held and gripped the Solid Rock Jesus Christ". He dedicated his life to Christ and accepted Him as his Lord &Savior. Later he would find his church home at Judah Community fellowship church where he served as a faithful Deacon for over 25 years.
John was a devoted husband, father, uncle and grandfather as well as a great friend and mentor to many .He enjoyed fishing, tap dancing and even singing along with the church choir. He loved making people smile and laugh, when you seen him it was your time to shine because he always had a camera ready for action. You could count on him to cherish each and every memory! He never missed a chance to share during testimony service and encourage the young people around him to keep serving the Lord.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Clark (Huss) Hohney, Bill Hohney , and wife Loretta.
John leaves to cherish his memory: 6 children: Michelle Hohney-William, Rudolph Hohney, Paul Hohney (Rachel), John Hohney Jr, Jennifer Tidwell, Sonny David and special son Chris Thompson. 2 brothers Paul Hohney and Donald Hohney. 18 grandkids, 33 great grand kids and a host of great-great grand kids ,nieces ,nephews, cousins and friends.
