Obituary of Benjamin L. Sanders, Sr.

Benjamin Lawrence Sanders, Sr age 82, went home to be with the Lord on December 16, 2016. He was born November 17, 1934 in Mt Holly, New Jersey. He was the son of Eugene and Christine Sanders and was one of eight children. Ben was educated in the Cinnaminson public school system and graduated from Palmyra High School in 1952. He found employment with National Cassein as a kettle operator and became plant supervisor. Ben started Ben’s Exterminating Service with the motto “It’s not a shame to have them, just a shame to keep them”. After a lengthy career, he retired in 1998. In 1953, Ben married Ruth Hunter of Moorestown, NJ. From that union, they were blessed with four children Benjamin Lawrence Jr. (Larry), Yvonne. Michael and Dennis. Later in life he met Mollie Wade from Camden, NJ. In 1990, they married and brought together two additional children Cynthia Carpenter and Darlene Wade. At an early age, Ben was baptized at St. Paul’s Church in East Riverton, NJ. In 1975, he became a member of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of then late Reverend James W. Harris. His service continued under the leadership of Reverend James C. Jones and the current Pastor E. Clifton Freeman, Jr. He was involved in many activities such as Trustee Board, Men’s Chorus, nursing home outreach, prison ministry, Alzheimer support group and noon day prayer. Ben coached the neighborhood youth basketball team called the Golden Streaks. He enjoyed spending time with his family at barbeques, holiday dinners, sports activities, the beach, and amusement parks. He also liked bowling, couples fellowship, and traveling with his special social club Group 10. Left to cherish his memories are: his wife and constant companion, Mollie Sanders. Three sons Benjamin Jr, (Margaret), Michael (Linda), Dennis (Kathy) and three daughters, Yvonne Sapp (Bruce), Cynthia Carpenter (Edward) and Darlene Wade. Two sisters Bernice Hazel and Frances (Charles) Collins. Thirteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Ben was preceded in death by sisters: Regina, Edna, brothers, Eugene, David, and William.
