Clifton Hickman

September 5, 1932 - May 21, 2017

Clifton Lee Hickman was born September 5, 1932 in Cedar Grove, Virginia, to the late George and Cleo Hickman.

 Clifton received his formal education from the Northampton County Public schools and at an. early age. He joined the Ebenezer A. M. E. Methodist Church in Capeville, Virginia.

Several years later he relocated to Philadelphia, Pa., and became employed at Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, Pa., as custodial engineer for 30 years. After leaving Bryn Mawr College, he acquired employment at the Lower Merion Township, in Merion Pa. Several years later he retired.

Clifton met and married Shirley Johnson best known as  “Ann,” on September 23, 1995. As they shared their lives together, they also perished together, along with their grandson Tyreke Johnson on May 21, 2017.

Clifton was also predeceased by his late wife Maggie Hickman, Brother George Hickman, two sisters, Elsie Louise Townsend, Sadie Robinson, and granddaughter Verdale Saunders.

Clifton, also known as “Uncle Clif,” “Cliflee” and “Pop Pop,” was a loving and caring husband, father, brother, and uncle. He truly loved his family and church family also. His service was to help anyone he could. He would say something to put a smile on your face, and he loved to fish, cook, play     dominoes and cards. He also loved animals.

Clifton, “Clif” leaves to cherish fond memories: one daughter, Cornelius Carolyn Reed, Trenton, N.J., one son, Nafese Crawford Hickman, Philadelphia, Pa., one step daughter, Angela Johnson Philadelphia, Pa., one sister, Marian (Frank) Rankins, Lawnside, N.J., three grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren.  A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, others relatives and Friends.
