Beatrice Ellen Hill Ransom was born December 28, 1927, to the late Mildred Bailey Hill and the late Wendell T. Hill, Sr. Ellen was the youngest of 3 children born to this union. Her older brothers Wendell, Jr and C. Nadell predeceased her. Their family moved to Palmyra in 1932. Ellen was educated in the Palmyra School System through eighth grade. She then attended the Bordentown Manual Training school for grades nine and ten and then transferred to Palmyra High School where she graduated in 1947. During her youth, her mother insisted that she and her brothers go to church any time the doors were open for youth activities. They would walk to Riverton to attend Sunday school at Mt. Zion AME church and youth services at The Mission in Palmyra. They would also attend BYPU at Evergreen Baptist Church. Ellen was active in the youth departments at Mt. Zion as a member of the Junior Choir, Junior Ushers and Junior Missionaries. Later, she became the Assistant Superintendent of Sunday School at Mt. Zion. In 1952 she married the late Lilmon H. Ransom, Jr. and became a member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Cinnaminson. To this union four children were born, 2 daughters Charlotte (deceased) and Deborah and two sons Lilmon III and Stacey. Her daughters sang in the Youth Choir at Evergreen Baptist Church which led Ellen to Evergreen and made it her church home for over 50 years until her passing. She was a member of various Women’s Day Committees and served as co-chairperson one year. She was also a member of the Missionary Society, Trustee Aids, and New Members Club. In addition to her church activities, she was also involved in various community activities in support of her children.Even through her declining health, Ellen pushed herself to attend services whenever the Lord gave her the strength to.
