Obituary of Mildred Jones

Please share a memory of Mildred to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Life Story Mildred Patricia Jones, better known as “Sissie,” was born on September 9, 1957, in Camden, New Jersey. She was one of six children of Louis and Joan Jones. Mildred spent most of her childhood growing up with cousins. Living in a close-knit community, she enjoyed playing street games on the block with friends and family, such as "123 Red Light," tag, and hide-and-seek, as well as winning neighborhood beauty pageants. Our family moved to Willingboro, NJ, where she attended John F. Kennedy High School. She took pride in being the oldest sister and established strong bonding relationships. Mildred was a dedicated working woman. She began her professional career as an EKG technician at Deborah Heart and Lung Hospital in Browns Mills, New Jersey. She later relocated to North Carolina and found her passion in medical billing and coding working at Duke in a profession that brought her purpose and happiness until her retirement. While managing a full-time job as a single mother, Mildred worked hard to further her education, receiving her associate degree in 2019. Being a mother was one of her greatest joys, and she took extraordinary pride in raising three amazing children: Lynel Jones, Monique Henderson, and Givani Barnes. She instilled in them her cherished values of loving deeply, putting family first, and showing compassion, which were also passed down to her grandchildren. Mildred enjoyed spending time with her family and creating lasting memories. Some of her favorite family activities included watching Sci-fi and animated movies, playing board games, crafting Easter baskets, baking Christmas cookies, and making gingerbread houses. In addition, to her children, she loved her plant babies; nurturing something as small as a seed and watching it blossom filled her with joy. She also loved her pets, including her beloved parakeet, Blue, and her dog, Jax Jax. Traveling was something she always enjoyed doing. Mildred will always be remembered for her admirable strength. She was a woman who epitomized beauty, inspiration, and resilience. She will live on in everyone’s hearts and will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her mother, Joan V. Jones Tripp; her father, Louis Jones Sr; her sister-in-law, Gwendolyn Jones; and her brother-in-law, Dr. Timothy George. Left to cherish her memory are her children Lynel Jones, Monique Henderson, and Givani Barnes; 6 grandchildren; Lynese, Nasia, Lynel Jr., Christian, Jasiyah, and Jo’el. 2 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Louis Jones, Jr. and Quentin Jones, Sr.; 3 sisters, Victoria Huff, Rosalind Jones George, and Sherri Jones; 1 son-in-law, Jovan Henderson; 1 daughter-in-law, Tonja Adams; and 1 brother-in-law, Bishop Earl Huff Sr. and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
