Thomas Wright, aged 97, on October 13, 2024, followed by his devoted wife, Christine Wright, aged 94, on October 14, 2024. Together in life and death, their timeless love story finds its eternal rest. Thomas was born on May 8, 1927, in Repaupo, New Jersey, to John and Ruth (Cunningham) Wright. A hardworking man with a heart of gold, Thomas retired as a proud Teamster from Nelson Trucking Company and National Freightways. His life was shaped by his unwavering commitment to providing for his family and by his values of loyalty, dedication, and humility. Known for his calm demeanor and quiet strength, he carried these qualities throughout his years of service and into his roles as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His smile had the power to light up any room. Christine was born on May 18, 1930, in Camden, New Jersey. She dedicated her career to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, where her grace, warmth, style, and kindness left a lasting impression on many before her retirement. Her life was defined by compassion and faith, always making sure those around her felt cherished and cared for. Christine also had a passion for fashion and traveling. Their nearly century-long journey together was marked by humility, kindness, and dedication. As a Teamster and a Healthcare worker, they exemplified service and compassion, leaving a profound impact on their family and everyone they encountered. Their grandchildren remember the quiet strength and deep connection that kept their family united. Thomas and Christine built a life rooted in faith, family, and love, always leading with grace and by example. In their final days, they were lovingly cared for by Cheryl White and Ms. Sonia Mills, who ensured they were surrounded by comfort, love and compassion. Thomas was predeceased by his beloved parents, John and Ruth Wright, his cherished daughter, Velma Hawkins, and his great-grandson, Khalil Wallace. He leaves behind a legacy of love in the heart of his son-in-law, Olin Hawkins, and his beloved grandchildren: Natasha Hawkins, Briant Hawkins, and Angela Hawkins-Abdallah (Luke). His memory will also live on through his cherished great-grandchildren: Zharia and Zhyana Young, Brianna and Destinee Hawkins, Navyanna Evans, Jrue, Idris, Bryson, and A’Rhyan Hawkins, Kaeden and Kendrix Abdallah. Additionally, he is survived by his great-great-grandchildren: Iyonna Wallace, Kartier King, and Miylah Pagan, along with a host of friends and family who will continue to honor his memory. Christine was predeceased by her dear parents, her cherished daughter, Helen Gurley. and her beloved grandsons, David Gurley and Mutota Amon (James). She leaves to cherish her memory her loving great-grandchildren: Chanique Mosley, Shaquille Gurley (Ant’Quinette), Shaqeyah Gurley, Shaylah Gurley, Sakeena Amon, and Sabir Amon (Doris). Christine’s love will also live on in her great-great-grandchildren, Lennox Forde and Jackson Gurley, along with a host of friends and family who will continue to honor her memory. As we reflect on their lives, we are reminded of 1 Corinthians 13: 4-7, Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Maya Angelou’s words echo in our hearts: “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Thomas and Christine made those around them feel loved and cherished, and their memory will forever live in the hearts of their family and friends. They will be laid to rest side by side at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, just as they lived—together in love and faith.
