My heartfelt condolences to Ashli, Brandi, Cheri and family. Your mom and I were best friends and were also roommates at Rutgers. Cheryl was Matron of Honor in my wedding. I held each one of you as babies. She was a remarkable woman, just like her mother, whom I also loved. Please know she is in Jesus’s arms and watching over you and your family. Her light and love will forever shine.
Lovingly, Wanda Brown

Such a lovely person, I worked with Cheryl briefly, but immediately knew she was special. Her energy and smile lit up the room and the people in it. Her love for her family and friends and people in general was understood as well. The Friday nights we spent together working will always be a cherished memory. I thank our mutual friend Beverly for introducing us.

Dr. Chavis, Cheryl was so nice and friendly. I will remember the last time we were together at Charleston Ave. in October. We laughed and talked. To the girls your mother was one of a kind, always thought about what she needed to do for her girls and grandchildren. I will keep all of you in my prayers.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Dr.
Cheryl Chavis. Heartfelt condolences and prayers are extended on behalf of all who knew and loved her, especially her family.
It was my great honor to serve as her supervisor during my final years as an educator before retiring from the Camden City School District.
Cheryl was always the same; kind, courteous, generous, gentle, sweet, and a talented/gifted person who represented the school district; and Early Childhood Department, including parents, children, administrators and teachers well.
Many are better individuals because Cheryl Chavis was our relative, friend, sibling, neighbor, colleague and more.
My prayer; the Lord will comfort and strengthen her family as the days go by.
With Sympathy and Love,
Michele McRae,
Retired Supervisor of Early Childhood Education in Camden, NJ

Cheryl was my oldest and dearest friend. We have been friends for 58 years and seen one another through good times and bad times. Her strength and resilience always inspired me. Most importantly she was a true Woman of God. She loved big and deep, but no one more than her children and grandchildren. I will always cherish her memory and carry it in my heart.
Absent from the body, present with the Lord!

My memory of Ms. Cheryl is her spirit of kindness & love. She was a one in a million person. She exhibited such a balance of professionalism which did not hurt people but love them. There are very few people in positions that know or care enough to do that. She was a gem in the earth and she exhibited a life that people should follow after.
