Obituary
Obituary of Rodney Quinn Parker
Please share a memory of Rodney to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Rodney Q. Parker was born on Saturday, January 7, 1961, at Cooper Hospital in Camden, NJ. He was the first and only child of Boddy Parker and Joyce McCarty.
Rodney made many life-long friends during his schooling. He attended Cooper B. Hatch Middle School and skipped into the 6th grade. He enrolled at Pennsauken Technical Vocation School in high school, to which he attributed his love for learning. He started his college education at Rutgers University, later transferred to Temple University, and completed his bachelor's in electrical engineering.
Professionally, Rodney worked at Comcast/Xfinity up until his passing as a business services technical lead. His true passion was working with computers and network engineering, and in 2005, he founded Universal IT Solutions, where he fixed laptops for friends and installed computer networks for local businesses. He also worked as a senior network engineer for a number of companies in the South Jersey/Philadelphia area. On a personal level, Rodney's gentle and caring nature was evident in his love for nature and animals. He could often be found walking his dogs through the neighborhood, enjoying the simple pleasures of life. His love for technology was balanced by his love for the natural world, and he would spend his nights tinkering with laptops, internet routers, or running cables through the walls. Rodney's love for cooking was another expression of his caring nature – he often attempted to recreate recipes he found at local restaurants and bragged about how easy each dish would be to make at home. He had a lot of friends but would always refer to himself as a lone wolf, spending hours in introspective silence, a true master of self-reflection. He recited poetry, sang love songs in a high-pitched falsetto, and took dancing lessons to be better on his feet. His smile was infectious, and if you saw him at a party, he was quick with a joke and had a wide toothy grin.
After a courageous battle with cancer, Rodney passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2024. He was a loving son to his mother, Joyce Eldridge, a devoted father to his two children, Elliott and Danielle, and a doting grandfather to his three grandchildren, Milan, London, & Orion. His love for his family was unwavering, and he leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins who will always cherish his memory.
