Obituary of Allen LeRoy Cooper

Allen Leroy Cooper was born March 1, 1940 in Lake City, SC. He was the second son of Hughie and Julia Cooper. Julia died when Allen was a toddler. Hughie then got remarried to Louise Williams in January 1943 and they raised Allen along with his eight siblings.
Allen attended Battery Park High School where he received his diploma in 1960. He later moved to North Jersey, where he met Sallie M. Johnson. They were united in holy matrimony on July 3, 1965. From this union Allen S. Cooper was born.
Allen, affectionately known as Leroy to many, worked at General Motors for 33 years where he retired in 2002. He also had another son, Christopher Rich, born in April 1980. Allen was known as a “ junk talker” as he loved playing Bid Whist and Spades. He also loved playing poker, craps and black jack at the casino. He was known as a master griller because he loved to cook.
He was a long time member of the New Beginnings United Methodist Church. Allen was a loving family member and a loving friend to many. His work on earth was completed as the Lord called him home to glory on June 11, 2016.
He was preceded in death by his father: Hughie Cooper, mother: Julia Cooper, step-mother: Louise Cooper and brother: Nathaniel Cooper.
Survived to cherish his memory are: Two sons, Allen S. Cooper (Yolanda D. Cooper-wife) and Christopher Rich (Jennifer Carrol–fiancé). Two grandchildren, Tiara and Dominique Rich. Three brothers, James Cooper of Camden, Hughey Cooper of SC and Ernest Cooper of Camden. Four sisters; Minnie Nesmith of Camden, Fannie Thompson (George) of Rochester, NY, Patricia Cooper and Lerinda Matthews of Camden. Fourteen nephews (three preceded in death) and fourteen nieces. A host of great nieces and nephews as well as great-great nieces and nephews. He also had four special young people that were dear to his heart; Ja’Quez (B.Bop) Washington, Shaela Matthews, Deyonna Jackson and Alia Dickerson. Also dear to his heart were Sianna (Sisi) Hill, Eriyana (Eri) Matthews and longtime companion, Shirley Easter.
