Obituary of Marjorie Johnson

Please share a memory of Marjorie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marjorie Reeves Johnson was born on May 29, 1933 in Camden, NJ to the late Otis and Estelle Reeves. Margie attended the public school system in Camden City, attending Powell Elementary School, and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1951. On August 1, 1953, Marjorie married the late Alfred Johnson, Sr. and from this union was blessed with four wonderful and dedicated children; Eric, Alfred, Jr., Joye and Tracey. During her early work career, she was employed by Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. After completing business school, on February 10, 1964, she embarked on a journey that would last thirty-four years. She began her employment with the City of Camden as a clerk-typist in the Comptroller’s Office and during this time managed to rear four children. She retired from her position as Principal Data Control Clerk in the Department of Finance, Bureau of Accounts and Control on January 14, 1998. Margie began attending Mt. Hope UAME Church as an infant with her parents when Mt. Hope was located in North Camden and known as the little church with a big heart. She was baptized at the age of six by Rev. Hartley and joined church at the age of twelve under Rev. Gaines. Margie worked diligently in the church through the years as a member of the adult choir, kitchen committee and missionary society. She was always there to lend a listening ear to the youth in the church and has mentored some of them in many ways to show her love for young members. She also shared her love and talents as a den mother to cub scouts, a scout leader to boys and girls, and most recently was a member of the Red Hat Society, an international social organization that connects, supports and encourages women in their pursuit of fun, friendship, and freedom while supporting members in the quest to get the most out of life. Her retirement years were spent giving much of her time to the church by making sure the church is noticed during the Spring and Fall by planting beautiful flowers that showcase her talent as a novice horticulturist. Her front yard always reflected her passion of flowers as the seasons changed. Marjorie leaves to cherish her memory her devoted children, Eric, Sr. of Voorhees, NJ, Alfred, Jr. (Brigitte) of Westampton, NJ, Joye (Antonio) of Tampa, FL, and Tracey of Virginia Beach, VA. Nine Grandchildren Kimberly, Shantay, Erica, Tony, Angelita, Desmond, Whitney, Alfred, 3rd, Eric, Jr.; and 8 great-grands, and 1 great-great grandchild; a special aunt, Deborah Teal on Trenton, NJ, special family friend Linda Berry Still, and a very close circle of long time and church family friends, too many to name. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association, P. O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241 in the memory of Marjorie Reeves Johnson.
