Obituary of Julia Elizabeth Holmes

Julia Elizabeth (Hammond) Holmes was born on March 16th 1929 to the late Walter James Hammond and Mary Louise (Lawrence) Hammond of Camden, New Jersey. She grew up and was educated in the Camden public school system. Julia accepted Christ at an early age and was confirmed at St Augustus Episcopal Church under the direction of Father McKay.
In 1946, she married her loving husband Lucian Grant Holmes of Woodstown, NJ. They soon moved to Camden where they were blessed with six wonderful children. Shortly after moving to East Camden, Julia & Lucian, joined St. John Baptist Church where she was a member for over 50 years. She served in several Church Ministries including, Usher Board, Senior Choir, and Out Reach Program.
Julia’s working career includes being employed at Tele-Coil and Data Media as an Electronic Technician. She later joined the Camden Public School system as a School Cook and Lunch Aid. She retired in 1984 and enjoyed the next two decades with her husband, children and grandchildren. After over 55 years of marriage, the Lord called her loving husband Lucian home. After his passing, Julia started a new chapter in her life and moved to Prior Lake Minnesota with her youngest son Roscoe and his family. She returned to New Jersey in 2009 and lived for several years in Sicklerville. She soon joined White Oak Baptist Church in Lindenwold, NJ under the direction of her son, Rev. Cedric B. Holmes Sr. She was a faithful member of the church and attended Sunday school regularly. Her added wisdom in the class was a spiritual encouragement to all. She would later come to be one of the Mothers in the church. She was well loved and affectionately called Mother Holmes.
In 2014, due to declining health she returned to live with her son Roscoe and his wife Gerri, in Orlando Florida. It is there where she transitioned from earth to glory.
She is preceded in death by her husband Lucian G. Holmes Sr., parents, Walter & Mary Hammond, Her son Lucian G Holmes Jr., daughter Theresa A. Holmes, brothers, Walter Hammond, Sydney Hammond, Kenneth Hammond, Robert Hammond, Alfred Hammond. Sisters Gertrude Jenkins, Mable Smith.
Julia is survived by four children Rev. Cedric B Holmes Sr. (Sandra) Sicklerville, NJ, Robert L Holmes (Kathleen) Berlin NJ, Sheila Dempsey (Harry) Chester PA, Roscoe L Holmes (Gerri) Ocoee FL. Sister Amy Stephens Chicago IL. A Host of Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews.
