Obituary of Silas Carr, Sr.

Silas “Sy” Carr, was born November 1, 1935 in Pittsgrove Township, NJ, to the late John Clyde and Laura Anne Carr. He was the second child of twelve children born to this union.
He grew up in Richwood, NJ until the family relocated to Glassboro, NJ where he was educated in the Glassboro School System. He graduated from Glassboro High School and attended Glassboro State College.
Sy was a very hard and dedicated worker. He started his career with the Gloucester County Prosecutors Office in Woodbury, NJ and became a paralegal. After he retired, he started his own business called Complete Care Building and Ground Maintenance until his health started declining.
As many of us may not know, Sy met the love of his life Hazel, at a young age. They later married on June 16, 1956 and together they had their handsome son, Silas “Tony” Carr Jr. Sy enjoyed working and taking care of his wife and family. He had many hobbies but golfing and going to the racetrack were two of his favorite.
Sy was a member of Bryant’s Temple under the leadership of Elder E.C. Bryant and then later joined Healing Wings COGIC under the leadership of Bishop Guidry.
Deeply loved, Sy was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Carr, his parents John and Laura Carr; four brothers, John Clyde Jr, David, Ralph and Dennis; and two sisters, Dorothy Tribbett and Mary Cook.
He leaves to cherish her memory his beloved sons, Silas “Tony” and Vince, three grandsons, Johnell(Ralesha)Williams, Rashawn (Melissa)Williams and Wesley Simmons; three granddaughters, Danielle Pritchett, Deserre Pritchett and Dalisha Pritchett; 15 great grandchildren, four brothers, Kennard, Stanley (Margaret), Harold, and Albert; one sister, Laura; three sisters-in-law, Mattie Miller, Edith Jones and Arlene Stone; two Goddaughters Rita Davis and Aliana “Princess” Carr, and a godson Latin “Pooh” Stone; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
