Obituary of Albertha Jones
Obituary
“’Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.”
On the morning of May 23rd, 2017, God smiled on our mother and He set her free. God gave her a brand new life and for this we give Him praise!
Our mother, Albertha Joyner Jones, started her life’s journey in Lane, South Carolina on December 21, 1936. She was the thirteenth child born to the late Robert and Evelena Joyner. She accepted Christ into her heart at an early age. The very young Albertha was an anointed vocalist. She was God’s little songbird. Singing God’s praises was what she did her entire life and she traveled from the west coast to the east coast singing with the renown Clara Ward Singers and also with the Soul Satisfiers Gospel Singers.
Albertha was joined in Holy Matrimony with the late Professor Marion Jones, Jr., an accomplished gospel musician. Together they gave God all the glory and the praise for over forty-four years. Albertha and her beloved Marion united, worshipped and served in the Rising Sun Baptist Church; he as minister of music and she as a choir member and president of the choir.
She was affectionately known as “Bert” to all of her friends and as “Nana Bert” to all the family, especially the grands..
Left to cherish her memory are her loving and devoted children: Eva L. Jones of Philadelphia, Pa; Marion Jones, III of Stafford, Va., Tyrone K. Jones, Sr. of Peachtree City, Ga., Denise L. Parker, Emerson Jones, Carl L. Jones and Teresa M. Jones all of Philadelphia, Pa.; Ernestine L. Jones (deceased). She also leaves to celebrate her life’s journey: 34 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.
