Obituary of Joseph L. Bordley
~Surrounded by his loving family, Joseph Lawrence Bordley, Sr. passed on to eternal life with Jesus on Saturday, July 8, 2017. Joseph was born on February 7, 1955 in Camden, NJ to the late Olen and Beatrice Reeves Bordley. He attended Cedarville and Bridgeton High Schools. Joseph was married to the late Mary Lucinda Bordley for 37 years. From their union came three children, Tyrone Bordley, Sr., Joseph Bordley, Jr. and Frank Bordley, Sr. In addition to his three eldest sons, Joseph also had another son, Na’Shawn Bordley.
Joseph began his early years working at Vineland State School. He then moved on to spend several years at the Tropicana Casino in Atlantic City. He also worked at various nursing homes in the Bridgeton area. Until his health began to decline, Joseph worked for Friend’s Nursing Home in Woodstown's, NJ.
After adjusting to the difficult and enduring schedule of dialysis, Joseph took over the job his late brother, Olen had held at Harris Storage & Distribution, Millville, NJ. He enjoyed this part-time position that kept him occupied. Joseph loved to dress and was known for his “stylish” apparel and always smelling good. He was a sports fanatic, his first love was baseball. He later became a diehard fan of the Dallas Cowboys.
In his early years he was a force to be reckoned with. Joseph had a passion for exotic and fast cars. He collected model cars which he proudly displayed throughout his home. He was a loving father and friend and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Joseph had a colossal heart and would give what he could to those in need. To know him was to love him. He always had a way of making those he was talking to feel extremely special and had an encouraging word when in need. Joseph was a father figure to so many without even knowing it.
Joseph was also a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Cedarville, NJ. Joseph recently changed his dialysis schedule, with the plan to join the Senior Choir. His family will remember him not just as father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather but an awesome friend with a great smile and stand out personality.
