Obituary of Karen Patricia Monroe
Karen Patricia Monroe was born on June 6, 1956 in Brooklyn, New York. She departed from our lives on August 9, 2017.
Karen was educated in New York. She migrated with her family to New Jersey in the late 1970's.
The Lord smiled upon Karen, she got saved and joined the Bethany Baptist Church in Newark, NJ. She later relocated to Burlington County in the early 1980's.
She worked for the New York Telephone Company, currently known as Verizon. Her initial position with Verizon was as a telephone operator and she rose through the ranks to the position of Special Customer Service Representative and held that position until her early retirement because of her ongoing battle with Lupus.
Although the battle with Lupus ravaged her body and eventually caused her to go blind in 2007, she persevered and maintained her independence until she departed this earth on August 9, 2017.
Karen had deep faith and she loved her church. Karen joined Saints' Memorial Community Church and became an active member of the Women's Ministry and Sunshine Ministry. She attended Sunday School and church regularly. Although Karen is no longer with us physically, she will never be forgotten,
Karen leaves to cherish her memory her mother and father, Anna Monroe Dames and Willie Houston Monroe, a devoted brother Kevin Monroe, New York, a loving sister Kathi Monroe Sheppard, New Jersey; loving nephew Richard Sheppard, Lemar Dames (accepted as a brother); cousin Sheila Whetstone, a special friend adopted as Aunt, Sheila Gittens; goddaughter Courtney Sledge, other nieces, nephews, cousins and her loving church family.
Sorrowfully submitted,
The Family
