Obituary of Willie T. Baker, Jr.
Willie Baker affectionately known as “Bake” was born on July 20, 1947 in Camden, NJ to the late William and Ella Mae Baker. He passed away suddenly on Saturday, January 20, 2018
He was the 5th child of 7
“Bake” received his education in the Camden City School System graduating from Camden High School Class of 1965.
After graduating from Camden High, Willie enlisted into the United States Army and was a Vietnam War Veteran.
“Bake” worked at the Salvation Army, Aparee Fabric and Tyco and became ill while working at his last job for Elite Transportation.
“Bake” was on the Participant Advisory Committee at Life at Lourdes, he also received the Leon “Smitty” Smith Memorial Award for Dedication & Devotion and the Patient Engagement Award at DaVita Lourdes Camden Dialysis.
“Bake” was dedicated to the youth and the various youth programs. He coached Lawnside Baseball, Lawnside Jaguars football, Centerville Simbas Football as well as All Nations Softball. He not only supported by attending the event but he also supported financially whenever he could.
“Bake” was a Die-Hard Eagles fan and would have been sooo excited to see them going to the Super Bowl. He also loved the Philadelphia 76ers and of course loved everything about the Camden High Panthers. Through the years “Bake” followed each player, he knew their stats, skill level, family members and their college selections. He attended his final Camden High Panthers Boys game on Thursday, January 18, 2018 against Lenape with a blowout score of 66-47, “You want da high, you got “da high.”
“Bake” enjoyed reading the Courier Post daily and he loved oldies and making oldies tapes. His favorite group was The Temptations.
“Bake” was predeceased by his parents William and Ella Mae Baker, siblings; John, Anthony, Robert and Joyce.
“Bake” leaves to cherish his memories; sister Elizabeth Welch of Camden, NJ, brother James Green (Virginia) of Columbus, OH, son Rasool Jones, 3 grandchildren; Rasool Jones Jr., Wali Jones and Zan`Ji Jones, sister-in-law Izelia "Pat" Baker, devoted nieces; Vernetta “Tiny” Baker and Antoinette “Toni” Boone, special nephew; Steven Pollard Sr., dedicated neighbors Danny and Valarie Graves and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
