Obituary of Sylvia Hanif
Sylvia Deltio
Sylvia Deltio born June 17, 1943 in Ciales, Puerto Rico, to Damien Deltio and Hortencia Gonzalez Nunez Deltio, was the youngest of (9) siblings; and mother of (4) children (Milton, Debbie, Johnny, and Ritchie).
Sylvia attended public schools in New York City, NY, where many of her shared memories were made. Sylvia would later tell her children and grandchildren about her life experiences growing up in New York.
Sylvia and her family moved throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and finally settled back in Camden, New Jersey. It was here that she would make root and nurture her growth, and the safe-keep of her children. Wherever she would go, she would immediately become a member of a local Bible believing church. Sylvia lived out what she believed: That God was the source of strength! She confessed and constantly testified on how He is the “All and All,” of everything and everyone.
In her own way, Sylvia was an entrepreneur. She demonstrated this by utilizing her factory learned skills (sewing) and making articles of crafts, which she enjoyed very much. She also enjoyed gardening, entertaining, and cooking for visitors at her home. Sylvia was an extremely romantic person at heart, who enjoyed day dreaming and telling stories of romance. Even until her last days, the music she enjoyed gives testimony of this. One of Sylvia’s immense passions was dancing. She enjoyed it so much, that before she would go out to dance, she would practice with her children! Her cousins, nieces, and granddaughter’s would soon follow in these footsteps. She introduced the “famous” lip posture to the females in the family, long before selfies!
She was known for her loud outburst laugh, which triggered others to join in; her ability to poke fun at others and immediately re-tract and say, “Ok, that’s enough!” Sylvia was also known for her strength and strong will, which allowed her to raise (4) children by herself. She was well respected and believed in financial stability, and not owing anyone or incurring debt. She joined the family on special outing’s, but wasn’t a fan of fruitless activities.
In her later years, she would become an icon of stability, such as an “Oak tree on a hill.” Everyone loved and cared for in their own special way. Today, Sylvia is survived by (3) of her children, (9) Grandchildren, and (13) great-Grandchildren. She will be well missed.
