Obituary of Jennie Mae Shields
Jennie Mae “Piggy” Shields departed this life on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at Jefferson Hospital in Stratford, New Jersey. Jennie Shields was born Jennie Mae Wilson on February 7, 1938 in Cary, North Carolina to the late Fred “Jack” Wilson and Mamie Lee Wilson. Jennie was raised with her four siblings: George, William, Mary and Alma Jean. She attended Trenton public schools and relocated to Camden.
Jennie met and married the love of her life Clarence “Sugar Boy” Shields, Jr. whom she met in Camden, New Jersey. To this union, 12 children were born: Betty Ann, John, Nathaniel, Gloria, Antoinette, Marcus, Lindsey, Rodriguez, Charles, Tina, Sabrina and Derrick. Jennie resided on Wildwood Avenue in the Parkside section of Camden, New Jersey for over 50 years. She was employed at L.J. Poultry for over 35 years and worked at the Camden Board of Education until retirement. Once retired, Jennie spent time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Jennie joined Antioch Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. John Parker. She served on the Door Keepers Ministry until her health began to decline. Jennie enjoyed learning about the Bible and attended Bible study with her sister and sisters-in-law on Liberty Street.
In addition to her parents Mamie and Jack Wilson, Jennie was preceded in death by her late husband Clarence Shields, Jr., her sons Nathaniel Shields and Derrick Shields, her daughter Gloria Shields and her siblings George Wilson (Eloise), William Wilson (Cora) and Mary L. Robinson.
Jennie is survived by her five sons: John, Marcus, Lindsey, Rodriguez and Charles; four daughters: Betty Ann, Antoinette, Tina and Sabrina; one sister: Alma Jean Nock; one brother-in-law: James Robinson; two sisters-in-law: Alberta and Margaret Shields; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
