Obituary of Wilburn Evans, Jr.

Wilburn Evans Jr., 86, very quietly and peacefully went home to be with the Lord on December 3, 2018.

Wilburn was born October 2, 1932 in Clarkdale, GA to the late  Wilburn Evans Sr. and Julia Evans.

In 1953, he graduated high school and was immediately drafted into the Army.  He served at Fort Bliss, TX and in Germany before separating from the service. 

Wilburn dedicated himself to a life long career with the U.S. Postal Service. Upon retirement from the Postal    Service he acquired a job with Willingboro Township as a Crossing Guard.  He retired in 2018. 

Prior to moving to Willingboro, Wilburn was a member of First African Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, PA where he served as a deacon and sang on the choir.

In 2003 Wilburn moved to Willingboro, NJ and joined    Alpha Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Danny E. Scotton, Sr.  At Alpha he served on the Deacon Board, the Usher Board and he enjoyed singing with the Male Chorus.  In 2004 he married Loretta Cain. 

Wilburn is survived by his wife Loretta; sister Julia (Goliath deceased) Albany, GA, Maryanne (William  deceased) Philadelphia, PA, and Lillian, Tampa, FL; his brother William, Brunswick, GA; two sons Wilburn III and Shawn (Kimberly); Loretta’s sons Kemp, Duane and (Raymond deceased); 8 grandchildren, and a host of   nephews and nieces.
