Obituary of Charles Roberts
Charles Benjamin Roberts
Born on September 11, 1936 in Riverside, N.J. to Benjamin and Juanita Roberts. He was the first of eight children. He departed this life on Friday, April 19, 2019 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden, N.J.
Charles was a long standing member of Hosanna, AME Church in Camden, New Jersey. He served on many committees and he sang with the male choir. He was loved by the Hosanna congregation.
His salvation was re-affirmed when his sister Dr. Amelia Roberts ‘Lewis visited him on April 13, 2019 and talked with him about his salvation.
Charles was educated in the public schools in Camden, N. J. He attended Woodrow Wilson High School.
He drove for various tractor trailer companies for 25+ years until he retired at the age of 65. He went back to work in 2007 at Goodwill Industries as a CDL Instructor until he finally retired on August 31, 2018.
Charles (Toogie, Mule Train, & Pop-pop) was known as one who loved people and he had a spirit that touched all that came in contact with him (Doctors, Nurses, and CNA’s) that cared for him at the end of his journey here on earth.
On April 19, 2019, Charles B. Roberts was called from labor to reward. His parents, Benjamin and Juanita Roberts, beloved daughter Diane Pritchett-Strong, sisters, Yvonne Johnson, and Esther Preston, all preceded him in death.
Charles leaves to cherish his memory: Fiancée Tresa Edmonds, children: Darwin & (wife Tracy), Doris, Ernestine, Bryant, Carmen, Tracey, Charles B. Roberts II, William (Jr.), Adam, MaryAnn and he was also Dad to Bridget, Tina, Ronald, Latisha, Tiffany and Curtis. Special daughter Linda Barber-Smith; three brothers Ronald Sr (wife Inez), James, Barry; two sisters Amelia (husband Al Lewis), and Sandra, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends.
