Obituary of Elous L. Funches

Elous Lee Funches (Ike), the son of the late Abraham and Hester Funches was born September 15, 1947 in Paulsboro, New Jersey the eldest of 6 siblings.  On June 22, 2019 at 9:15 pm Elous (Ike) peacefully slipped away into a better place while under the care at The Pines at Voorhees Health & Rehabilitation Center in Voorhees, NJ.  He arrived in Voorhees on June 17, 2019 after being under the care for some time at the Malcolm Randall VA Medical Center in Gainesville, Fl. 

He received his formal education in the Gloucester County School District.  On May 1, 1966, at the age of 19, he enlisted in the   United States Marine Corps where he trained as a Truck Mechanic for the Military. On March 5, 1970 he received an Honorable Discharge from the Military. 

After leaving the Military, Elous (Ike) began a career in Carpentry, he was very skilled with his hands.  He loved rebuilding homes as a Construction Worker.  He loved family gatherings and    telling jokes to brighten up your day.  He loved to eat and was a great cook in the kitchen.  He had a wonderful singing voice and loved to sing.  Whenever he got together with his brothers they would laugh and sing.  He also loved karate, if there was a movie on with martial arts in it, he would be there watching them all day.

Elous (Ike) met what would be his future wife Betty Tumblin in 1999 on Chestnut Street, in Camden, NJ whom he affectionately called Bet-Bet.  They lived together in Camden for many years before moving to Moultrie, GA.  On December 24, 2003 they were married and united as one. 

Elous (Ike) was predeceased by his father, Abraham Funches Sr., his mother, Hester Funches, brother, Louis Funches and brother, Edward (Saleem) Funches. 

Elous (Ike) leaves to cherish in his memory his wife of 16 years, Betty Jean Funches, Moultrie, GA, daughter, Dewanda “Keisha” Braxton of Camden, NJ, Brothers Abraham (Poncho) Funches Jr. of Camden, NJ, Silvia Davis (Dennis) of Paulsboro, NJ, Carolyn Jones of Tennessee, Grandsons Rashad Braxton Sr., and Rashon Parsley Sr., Great Grandchildren Ty’Miere, Rashad Jr., Ray’ell, Ja”Quia, Kami, Ka’Sila, Karter and Chase, and a host of step-children, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
