Obituary of Marjorie E. Thompson

Please share a memory of Marjorie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Marjorie Elaine (Jones) Thompson was born the only daughter of five children to the late Roland Rudolph and Marjorie Lillian Jones on June 26, 1938 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.  She quietly departed this life on October 18, 2019 in Hillsborough, North Carolina.

Marjorie affectionately known as “Elaine” graduated from Camden High School and later went on to earn her nursing degree.  Elaine accepted Christ at an early age and found her church home at Holy Spirit Cathedral currently known as El Bethel Community Cathedral Inc. After moving to North Carolina to live with her daughter and son-in-law (Joann and Wayne), Elaine joined White Oak Missionary Baptist Church.  Elaine was a blessing to all who knew and loved her.  On March 7, 1967 she married the late Joseph D. Thompson Sr and together they raised six children.

Elaine worked as a nurse for over 20 years in the geriatric healthcare system until she retired.  After retirement, Elaine became a long-time member of the Eastern Stars Adeste Fidelis Chapter No. 45 located in Riverside, NJ where she held the title of Matron.  She served her Chapter with much zeal and passion, always willing to assist and support others in her community. Elaine was truly a caregiver at heart whose soul thrived on helping and nurturing others.  She touched many lives and was loved by all who met her.

She leaves to cherish her memory: 3 sons Charles Christopher (Laura), Leon Lamont (Patrice), and Joseph Dewey; 3 daughters JoAnn Hester (Wayne), Mary Gilbert and Marjorie Landrum (Alaakhir), a special nephew Al-Mubdi Muhammad (Dean), one brother Roland R. Jones Jr. (Patricia), one sister in law Selma Thompson, 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 3 God children, a special niece and caregiver Bernadette (Stephanie) Morman and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
