Obituary of Acie Lee Andrew Logan

Please share a memory of Acie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Acie Lee Andrew Logan, known to his family and friends as Logan or Andy and to his numerous nieces and nephews as Uncle Andy, is a wise, country man with a sense of humor and hearty laugh. On Monday evening, April 13, 2020, he closed his eyes and transitioned after a long series of illnesses and a massive stroke releasing him of the extensive pain he endured for several years as he did all he could to live independently. Andy was born to Lillie Berry Hundley and Floyd Logan in Halifax County, VA on February 15, 1933. As a young man, he moved to New Jersey and met a pretty young woman named Signora Petty and married her on January 8, 1956 in New York, NY. He worked for many years and retired as a foreman from Barclay Irrigation where he was responsible for leading and overseeing the irrigation system installations for some of the most infamous and beautiful golf courses on the East Coast and over to the Midwest, as well as other large commercial landscapes. As he grew into an avid golfer, he was privileged to play with friends on courses that prohibited for African-Americans from being on the greens unless they were caddies. Andy loved to golf with his plaid pants buddies and enjoyed shooting pool in his basement and good games of horseshoes at every family reunion and holiday barbeque that he and Signora hosted. Horseshoes games lasted for hours with Artis, David, James Lloyd, A.J., Roger, Huzel, Tom, Jim, Ernest, Harvey, Gene, and any other “man” in the corner of the yard by his infamous “shed.” At the end of the day, they would leave the horseshoes for the younger males to try. The infamous “shed” held all of his lawn equipment he used to meticulously maintain his beautifully green acre that he loved so much. He designed the landscape and irrigation system to ensure his tall tree-filled lawn was well-watered and pachysandra stayed green even through the hottest of summers. He is the brother of predeceased siblings Mary Alice Logan, Ruby Ellen Petty, James and Thomas Logan, Marjorie Summerville and surviving siblings Huzel Logan (Dorothy*) (GA), Lillie Zenner Roberts (NJ), Francis Morris (NJ), and Virginia Armstead (NJ). He leaves numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, great- and great-great-nieces and nephews across the country that will miss him greatly. His longtime friend-turned-neighbor Roger Nelson (NJ) and longtime friend that was like a brother A.J. Jackson (FL) will mourn and miss him dearly from their 65 years of friendship. Andy was a brother, uncle, friend, and father to some of their nieces, nephews, and godchildren though he and Signora did not have children. Their “special” children whom they had the blessing to nurture and raise, after their mother Ruby Ellen passed away, include Portia, Dennis, Ernestine, and Victoria.
