Obituary of Cordelia A Smith

Cordelia Ann Smith was born on December 25, 1962 in Newark, New Jersey to Ethel L. Smith and Eugene Caldwell. She was the youngest of three children. Cordelia grew up in Newark and attended the public schools. She was very bright and was accepted into the University High School for advanced students. She later attended and graduated from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jerseywith a Bachelors of Arts degree in Economics. She pledged and joined the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority while attending Rutgers and loved that pink and green!
Cordelia worked as a claims adjuster for many years before applying and being accepted at the Seton Hall Law School in South Orange New Jersey. She graduated from Law School in 1994. Cordelia passed the Bar so high that she waived into 2 other states. She worked for several Law Firms before venturing out and starting her own practice. She worked as an attorney for over 20 years.
Cordelia was a loving and dedicated daughter and sister. She spent the last few years of her life taking care of her mother prior to becoming ill. She loved her family and she loves God.
Cordelia attended the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark for over 20 years under the late Reverend Dr. Charles E. Thomas. She was the assistant to the Treasurer. She was also a member of the NAACP, the Hospitality Committee and the Big Brother Big Sister Organization.
Cordelia enjoyed working on political campaigns for candidates she believed in. She worked on the campaign of the former President Barack Obama, Senator Corey Booker and most recently Congressman Andy Kim.
Cordelia and her mother purchased a home in Willingboro and became a member of the Alpha Baptist church under the leadership of Pastor Dr. Danny E. Scotton Sr. Cordelia loved her pastor and her church.
Cordelia leaves to cherish her memory her mother Ethel Lee Smith and her sister, Sharron Ann Smith. Preceding her in death was her Father Eugene Caldwell and her brother Emmon F. Smith Jr. She has 2 nieces Taneisha and Chanise Smith of East Orange, NJ. She also has a host of friends and relatives from New Jersey and Florida. Cordelia will be forever in our hearts and truly missed.
