Please share a memory of Wylene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Wylene Pugh (nee Lewis), was born in Dublin, GA, on June 25th, 1935. She is the daughter of, Martha Alzettie Young and Wilkens Lewis, also the 2nd oldest of 6 children: Rogers Lewis, Eddie Lewis, Carolyn Young, Carlton Young, and Joyce Davis. She migrated to Camden, NJ, with her family, when she was 12 years old. Upon arriving in Camden, she attended Sumner Elementary School, and later Camden High School, until the 11th grade. Wylene was forced to leave high school early, in order to work and help support her family. A few years later, at the age of 19, she met, and then married William Edward Pugh (Deceased). From this union, her 2 children were born, William Jr. (Billy) and Cynthia. In 1970, Wylene rededicated her life to the Lord, while attending Antioch Baptist Church in Camden. She later joined the St. John Apostolic Church, under the Pastorship of Mother Mary Tarte. After attending St. John's for several years, she started fellowship at Grace Apostolic Church, also of Camden, under the Pastorship of Mother Madeline Jackson. While a member of Grace Apostolic Church, Wylene received decree as an Evangelist, to preach God's Holy Word, in 1988. After receiving this anointing upon her life, she would go to preach wherever the Lord led her throughout Philadelphia and the states of NJ, and GA. She relished the opportunity to profess God's word and bring lost souls to Christ. She was a strong believer in the Power of the Blood of Jesus Christ. She often proclaimed the benefits of walking with Christ and obeying & studying His Word. She was committed to seeing her whole family "Saved By the Blood of the Lamb". In 1971, after returning to school and receiving her G.E.D., Wylene earned a Nursing Certificate from the OIC Vocational School, Philadelphia, PA. With this certificate, she acquired a Certified Nursing Assistant job at the Lakeland County Hospital, in Blackwood, NJ, where she worked for 25 years until she retired in 1996. Landing the job at Lakeland County Hospital, allowed Wylene to purchase a home, for herself and her children, in North Camden, on Birch Street, where she lived until her retirement, before returning to Dublin, GA, where she was able to see another blessing of the Lord materialize, in the form of her house being built from the ground, up on 10 acres of land, she owned. She lived in that house, on her land for over 15 years, until health issues forced her to return to NJ, to be cared for by her daughter & grandchildren. Wylene passed away peacefully in her sleep, on May 28th, 2020, after a long illness of Dementia, resulting from previous Strokes, while staying at the Samaritan Hospice Home, in Voorhees, NJ. She is predeceased by both of her Parents, and 3 of her Siblings. She leaves to mourn: 2 Siblings – Carlton & Joyce; Her 2 Children - William Jr. & Cynthia; 5 Grandchildren - Theresa, Geneva, LaToya, Jerry (Sierra) & Nicole (Leonard); 7 Great-Grandchildren; 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren; as well as a Host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Church Family & Friends.
